How was your day, F!Sers?

Had to babysit four kids (three under 7, one waaaaaaay on the spectrum) while their mother got case management.

I really hate kids, and screamy, shouty, grabby, sticky, snotty kids who can't actually stop being all of those things, while not to blame, are just...too much.

You ever have those days where everything annoys you but you are also just so done you don't have the energy to really be annoyed? That's the kind of day I've had. Nothing awful, nothing great, just meh bordering on annoying.

Well, work was busy, but it was my last work day until Tuesday, so it was nice looking forward to that. Really ready for my long weekend. Also, I saw Dungeons and Dragons in the theater this evening, and I loved it.

Overall, not too bad. Some family drama, but it is (I hope) temporary, and once the event that is causing all the drama is over with things will hopefully calm down.

On a silly fandom note, I have a rarepair in a small fandom that I've been checking AO3 for almost daily for months now, and after there being nothing until now, there's finally one fic, which, yay! But also, it involves a kink that I'm usually not too into. I'm kind of nervous to read it in case it's awful but I'm also desperate for fic for this pairing lol.

I'm exhausted. I think it is a combination of allergies and planning my nephew's birthday party.

Not bad. I did my nails today, a white pedicure (which I've never done before) with Glamnetic's "Marshmallow Swirl" press-on nail set (I got at Ulta). Looks damn good, very summery!

I woke up early morning with a horrific migraine and got to test my new job's feelings about callouts. Answer: Extremely well, super friendly and accepting, and reminders to put my PTO in. So that was nice! I pretty much spent the day either asleep or in a bit of a stupor so it wasn't a nice day off or anything lmao. But my company closes every third Friday of the month (paid) so now I'm into a three day weekend.

Work was busy but I had prepared well and so as soon as it was done I could take off for ACen. And the drive went really smoothly, especially since I made some good lane choices and thus got to breeze right by a traffic jam for about 6 miles.

My hotel room is on the top floor and as far from the elevators as you can get, so that sucked, and then my digital key flaked out and although it worked on a second try, I don't want to risk walking up 8 flights of stairs or waiting 15 minutes for an elevator only to not be able to get into my room during one of my "health things" so after I recovered a bit I went back down to ask for a regular key. And the guy at the desk also told me I could use the staff elevator that's kind of hidden in that back corner by my far-away-as-you-can-get-and-still-be-in-the-hotel room. So things are looking up.

Except I've only seen two other people wearing masks. Sigh. I know at least three of my friends who are here are masking. One reason I'm friends with them - they're smart and stay informed and care about others.

I had a nice phone conversation with my best friend but mostly other than that it sucked.
I'm still pissed off about what I found out a couple of days ago, that they're raising my rent by $200!! and today on top of that, when I went to Trader Joe some old bat rammed her cart into my ass and told me to hurry up (and she didn't even say "hurry up" like a normal person, she goes "step up lively" like we were in some fucking 30's movie). I have arthritis in both legs and all I did was pause for a second so I yelled at her. She goes into Trader Joe and I'm too pissed off to want to be in the same bldg as her so I duck into a nearby cafe instead to cheer up w/ a cup of tea and they were playing Queen. Freddie Mercury keeps me from killing nasty old ladies in Trader Joe.
Then when I went to get a slice of pizza for lunch I had to wait for ages because some illiterate kept calling the wrong name. I go to that place all the time and that's the first time they fucked up my name. And I do not have a weird name.

What's your favorite spelling error?

Defiantly instead of definitely makes me laugh every time. Just the way it changes the context of the sentence is always funny to me.

Judgement, the British spelling of judgment (US spelling). I have to remind myself all the time because as a lawyer it does come up a lot. And judgement just looks better.

Fir

Usually happens when I'm typing/trying to type "for". I then read it with an accent. Lol.

Defiantly always amuses me, too!

I recently friended someone on social media (a friend of a friend, who I have only met once) who I have learned thinks that "spelling rules" are offensive and has decided that she is only going to spell things the way she thinks they "should" be spelled (including her husband's name, which he is apparently okay with because she's ~quirky~). An example of one of her posts would be something like:

"Donnyld [her husband, whose name is actually spelled Donald] izs pickeeng ahp sbagettey ahn hihz weiye hohm frumme wyrke. Caunt waite tou sie hym!"

(For the record, she was born and raised in the US and her first language is English. According to my friend that knows her, she used to spell things correctly until a couple years ago when she for some reason decided that she is being oppressed by dictionaries or something and she shouldn't have to anymore. She's completely insane but occasionally entertaining lol.)

When you get autocorrected to duck or ducking.

Though once I was typing about a dream I had where I took a trip in a "spaceshit." In my defense, I had just woken up and was still groggy.

When someone grabs someone by the waste, it tends to make me snort.

Sometimes it frustrates me, but sometimes it amuses me when some uses access for assess, just depends on how it has been used.

When someone uses butt for butte or but, it's always funny.

I almost always find it exasperating when phase is used when they mean faze, however I almost always find the reverse funny - "He's going through a faze.", "Her job is being fazed out."

Saw bizarre used for bazaar and that gave me an interesting mental image.

"Pedalstool" instead of "pedestal." I always thought it was just a funny bit from The IT Crowd and not a common mistake. Then one of my managers at my last job used it twice in a very serious report for a very serious grievance meeting.

I giggled then and haven't stopped giggling since.

This is less of a spelling thing and more of a grammatical thing, but I've noticed a huge uptick in the amount of people using "itch" instead of "scratch" in my part of the world and I don't know how it started. Like "I'm itching my arm." No, you have an itch, and you're scratching it. You don't itch an itch.

Pervious for previous. I can't decide if this is funnier on FetLife or in non-sexual contexts.

Question

[personal profile] philstar22 2023-05-19 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
I really loved the Dungeons and Dragons movie and I really want to get into the lore. Are there books you would recommend? From what I can tell, the specific lore for the movie is from the Forgotten Realms? Are any of the books good? And is there anything specific that focuses on the Red Wizards? My villain-loving soul was fascinated by them.
