What's your fandom exception?

I can't do animated fandoms. I love anime and cartoons and cgi etc, but I just have never been able to really get into fic or fandom and absolutely no shipping or smut or anything. Except for Gundam Wing. That was years ago, and yet still the only one.

In every fandom I have an OTP. Except Criminal Minds. I don't ship anyone.

I'm the opposite, I can't do real people movies fandoms. I can't properly separate the actor from the character when I go to read smut fic or see art.

I don't like anime except for Shin Chan and Aggretsuko. (I like ATLA a lot but I have been repeatedly told it isn't anime.)
Also, I like everything Monty Python did except the fat man barfing in Meaning of Life. That'll get me to clear the room.

I have a Fandom bicycle in every Fandom except for Game of Thrones. I just ship Brienne/Jaime. Granted, that could be because Brienne didn't have any other good ships.

I mostly don't do animated fandoms either, but I love ATLA, Clone Wars, and Rebels.

I still get squicked about RPF (not that I go after people who are because I do not have that kind of energy to be a dick to strangers on the internet about it; I just avoid it and mind my business)
- however there's a youtube fandom that I make an exception for it, because I'm enjoying the elaborate AUs that the fandom has created so far (mostly werewolf or vampire ones, because lol that's been my jam since I was a preteen in my frist fandom).

I guess it doesn't count any more since I've been into a LOT of fandoms since the early 2000s; but I was the opposite where I was pretty much only into anime or animated fandoms for the longest time with Red Dwarf being my exception.
Then after about 10 years I got into AOS Star Trek - which lead to getting into the majority of the Star Trek series (TOS - Enterprise), before getting into more through Tumblr.

I never have ships comprised of characters I can't root for. Dedra/Syril is the exception. Syril could hypothetically still turn his shit around, but Dedra, not so much.

So my dad came to visit today and sat down and said "I'm not well, and you need to prepare for the worst." He's having a test to confirm next week but his doctor says the most likely diagnosis is later stage throat cancer. My dad is the furthest thing from a hypochondriac and even he says that he feels like this is "it" and that he's rapidly deteriorating.

I'm super close to him and we've been through a lot together. My world feels like it's crumbling away and I don't know what to do for him. He can't manage solid food so I've ordered some meal-replacement drinks but I don't know if he'll accept them.

I just want this to un-happen. I love him so much and I don't want him to go.

My dad just finished treatment for throat cancer. It was really rough and he ended up with a feeding tube because he couldn't swallow, but he is cancer free now and doing so much better. I hope the same happens for you and your dad. It's scary stuff amd I wish you all the best.

Meal replacement drinks sound like a good idea. If he doesn't accept them straight away, he may be able to later, when he's ready.

Pay real close attention to how thick (swallowing texture) all his food is, and ask his nurses for feeding advice.

Trying hard to wish you all of the energy you both will need...

as someone with knowledge in oncology: yes, throat cancer is really nasty, but! depending on how late "later stage" actually is, theres still thing he can do. There might be surgery, radiation and or chemo. There are palliative treatment options that can improve quality of life. Most important is nutrition. So meal replacement drinks are a good option. You might want to accompany him to his appointment next week. Ppl usually forget half of what is said in these appointments, so having a second person there helps alot to retain info. dont be shy to write down queations to ask the nurse/doctors in advance. Making notes is also fine.
And if it is really "too late", there's still options for QoL.

I’m sorry sorry, anon! I agree with the anons above me that there is some things that can possibly be done to help him recover or just have QoL improvements, and that you should definitely go with him to his appointment. You have a good idea in meal replacements.

Not sure if you want someone to chat with, but my family just went through this - feel free to reach out to me. If you can I'd suggest going to the Drs appointments with him in the beginning. I went with my dad and it was super helpful because he didn't really remember much of what was said, and he's awful at asking questions. Idk if he really cared, but it certainly helped me feel better about the whole thing.

Saw a M*a*s*h fan video on Tumblr using the song 'All These Things That I've Done' by the Killers that's been stuck in my head since seeing it.

Although annoyingly I can't seem to find it again, even though I was sure that I had re-blogged it (been looking through fan videos on youtube to see if I could find it there and just found every other fandom instead so far).

Well, I've been obsessed with the songs the main character sung in the recent Dungeons and Dragons movie. How are they not on the soundtrack? I did find a couple covers, hoping more show up eventually.

Me yesterday: I'm aware that many women say the men they live with expect to be babied, which is why I've been trying to see if I notice any of this, and I can't see it even when I try to.

The women replying to me: Oh you see it all the time and just don't realize you see it because it's normalized you're not thinking about it.

Bold of y'all to complain about men not listening when you must be willfully ignoring the bulk of what I said in order to form that response. Damn this comm is up its ass.

"Can't see it even when you try to," and, "Don't see it because it's so heavily normalized as to be invisible to many people," are pretty much the opposite of mutually exclusive, and the fact that you don't understand that honestly lends credence to what those people were speculating yesterday. You do seem kind of oblivious.

I don't see it either. I think most people want to have good relationships and put some thought into learning how to. Society has an influence, but it isn't fate.
