You realize that a lot of the time directors don't have final cut, right? They usually aren't the ones who took out those scenes.

You don't need to stand for hack directors, you know. Or is it just kneejerk contrarianism?

(Anonymous) 2023-06-12 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
"Directors often don't have final cut" is just a factual true statement though

(Anonymous) 2023-06-12 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Knee-jerk contrarianism it is.

I feel like I've read too many trivia sections on IMDB which discuss studio meddling that leads to critical scenes being cut from the final product to really buy this stubborn stance.

You are, indeed, a knee-jerk contrarian.

(Anonymous) 2023-06-13 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
Mate,stop talking.

(Anonymous) 2023-06-13 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
Are you... are you feeling okay? This is a very strange hill to attempt to die on.

(Anonymous) 2023-06-13 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
...like you are the one who can talk

(Anonymous) 2023-06-13 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
...?

(Anonymous) 2023-06-13 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
Alrighty then

I have no idea if it is true or not. But you seem terribly offended by someone having a difference of opinion. Even if they are wrong, that just means they are wrong. They clearly aren't being deliberately contrarian.

Congrats on a successful derail. Leaping to correct people is clearly the tactic to use, I'm stealing that for the future.

(Anonymous) 2023-06-13 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
Is it really derailing?

OP is raising the question of why directors cut something from the movie in its theatrical version, and then put it back in the extended version.

Well, oftentimes, the answer is that they don't - the studio is the one that cut it from the theatrical version, not the director.

(Anonymous) 2023-06-13 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
That's literally just the truth, though. Directors often get told by the studio that they have to take things out. Sometimes it's for ratings reasons, sometimes it's for timing reasons, sometimes it's just because the studio doesn't think the scene is important to the work as a whole.

"Well, actually-ing" the OP is always good for starting drama, especially if you can get it in as a first comment. It always comes across as confrontational.

How is it "well actually-ing"!!

It's not a meaningless technicality. It's extremely relevant to the point OP was making!
