I'm saying it's probably because the regular users of this site are old people and old people tend to skew towards problematic ships, whereas Klance tended to appeal to younger people. Calm down.

Madeline Miller? "Patroclus was a gentle, flustered soul who was deeply in touch with his feminine side and harbored a lifelong foot fetish" Madeline Miller?

The final book in Naomi Novik's Scholomance series. This idea has such potential, and Novik's writing has such potential, but I just don't jive with her writing at all. I feel like, at root, I just want totally different things from a story than Novik does. The things she seems to find narratively satisfying aren't satisfying to me, and I'd imagine the reverse is also true, since she so rarely goes in narrative directions I find genuinely satisfying.

Also, I'm 99% sure I guessed the "twist" (if you wanna call it that) from page 31 of book two, and I'm halfway through book three and the characters still haven't figured it out--including the class valedictorian whose entire personality is basically "if Hermione Granger was a Slytherin." So I really feel like she, at least, should've got there by now.

All I remember is Klance shippers harassing Shiro and Pidge's voice actors endlessly when they even showed any leniency towards sheith. Dunno where all the shit ITT came from, probably butthurt klancers.

Every accusation that Klance shippers throw at Sheith shippers ITT, or that Sheith shippers throw at Klance shippers ITT, only convinces me more that both sides were full of awful people acting badly and that Voltron shipping is an irredeemably toxic wasteland

People seem to LOVE it. But then... a lot of people went nuts over Love Between Fairy and Devil and I found it annoying and boring with a pacing that dragged. I think xianxia is maybe not for me (though I enjoyed Starry Love), especially if it involves a lot of suffering, romance and angst, which they all seem to do.

LOL, you're probably right. I should just stick to gifsets and pretty pictures of LYX.

I've been reading a bunch of old thrillers.

Most recently, I read "Hopscotch" by Brian Garfield. The premise is that there's this spy who was forced by his agency to retire, and he's now incredibly bored with his life and wants revenge. So he writes a manuscript revealing all of the top-secret knowledge he has about secrets and assassinations and conspiracies, and then he tells the CIA and the KGB that he's going to have it published unless they manage to find him and kill him first, because he wants the thrill.

So it's a great premise, and the book really delivers on it. The action is great, the characters are very good hard-bitten cynical spy types, and there's lots of fun espionage business where the spy agencies fling out their nets to try to find the main character while the main character tries to dodge them. Of course, it's of its time at moments, but on the whole, I really enjoyed it.

AYRT Yes

(Anonymous) 2023-06-22 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
Yup. Shipping is supposed to be fun. Not whatever hellscape this is.

Ain't nothin but a heartache..

I never understood why Peggy/Angie was so popular in Agent Carter fandom, when Peggy/Dottie was right there with a far more interesting (to me) dynamic. I thought enemy shipping was a thing in fandom.

I know different things appeal to different people, and I’m not mad about it. I just never got it. Maybe because I never understood the fandom fascination with Angie anyway, other than as someone to ship Peggy with.

How is anyone actually supposed to know if it's real or not? The whole account comes through the media, doesn't it? Which knows bloody well that many people have been fantasizing about bad things happening to the filthy rich ever since the pandemic increased the 1%'s net worth, at the expense of literally every other group being pushed farther into poverty?

I mean, it's fine if you have some reason to think this is a real thing. But the little I've heard of it doesn't make much sense, and the premise just reeks of wish-fulfillment clickbait to me.

If I'm reading a fic for an American fandom, I will back-button at the first goddman Briticism.

Yes to the second two, but I don't think that works for Dawson's Creek. Dawson got the career he wanted, but Pacey got the girl. If it had been like HIMYM, Dawson and Joey would have gotten back togehter.

Hm, no, if you want interesting + dark in TFA, there's Kylux and Phux and, if you get really lucky, a smattering of Snylo.

And some really offbeat stuff that bends canon hard in order to exist, like Rey training under the force ghost of Darth Maul or rescuing one of Palpatine's clones from a crashed Dreadnaught on Jakku and becoming a sith.

But they watered Kylo down too much to make him a proper Star Wars villain. Small wonder he can't keep up with Rey.

Oh man, yes. I was very into Rey/Kylo when I first saw TFA. But the fics are so boring. I quickly gravitated towards other pairings with more interesting fics. Give me more evil!Rey, more hate sex, more just plain interesting stuff.

I get this. But for being so male-centric, I love that the males are so varied. Some are stereotypically masculine, while some are very not. Yes, I'd love more women. But I love it nevertheless.

Exactly. I found FF8 boring and confusing due to its junction system. People who have never played FF7 or it’s spin-offs and only like Advent Children are the real crime perpetrators here.

Fave sweet treats ... fresh ataulfo mangoes in summer. Like, right now.

I agree, but I would also be mega into Reylo if it was exactly the same vibes and dynamics and quality of fics but f/f, so I can't really judge.

(Anonymous) 2023-06-22 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
Yep. Both sides were fucking awful and made the fandom a toxic wasteland for everyone else. I’m so glad neither of them won in the end.

(Anonymous) 2023-06-22 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
While I will always acknowledge that both klance shippers and Sheith shippers were equally trash and had equal hands in making the fandom such an awful place, I have never hated a fandom the way I hate the Sheith fandom, so I’m extra glad I haven’t seen any of them trying to get their grubby hands on Clark/Lois.

(Anonymous) 2023-06-22 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
And seeing all the Sheith fans itt just completely passing the buck with the “no but klance fans” reinforces this hatred lol. God I’m so glad they lost in the end. I’m glad klance lost too, but man, fuck Sheith fans so hard.
