Recently finished Final Fantasy 9 for maybe the fifth time in my life. I still love the game so much and Vivi is one of my favourite FF characters for his storyline.

It really pales in comparison to FF7 and FF8 imo and I think that’s because they learned from their mistakes in those games (adding Zack last minute to explain Cloud’s behaviour and the whole time shenanigans in FF8).

What is with FF9 fans treating it like it's this super amazing borderline spiritual experience when it's just as messy as every other FF game?

AYRT here and I love all three but FF9 is just my favourite out of them, followed by 7 and then 8

Well, to each their own. Some people seem to believe the original FF7 is the most amazing thing on the planet, despite having never played other FFs or most JRPGs (or any at all). If something resonates with a person, then it resonates with them.

Personally, I couldn't get into FF9. I get that it was a return to old school Final Fantasy but it bored me more than FF8, so I quit.

Exactly. I found FF8 boring and confusing due to its junction system. People who have never played FF7 or it’s spin-offs and only like Advent Children are the real crime perpetrators here.

Heh, the Junctioning system is one of things that didn't bore me about FF8 (Triple Triad being the other thing). But the rest of it... meh.
