A girl I went to high school with had not one but two Rammstein tattoos. We never talked except at the band's gigs. I am disappointed and sad but at least I never had band logos inked on me.

(I also knew a person with Marilyn Manson tattoos..)

Nah, I don't believe the allegations.

I think the story of the first woman who came forward doesn't make a lot of sense, but if a lot of people are saying they felt the same way at these backstage parties it's prolly worth it to investigate

Well, the story goes 'an evil Russian woman' that's awfully convenient for the current media narrative.
It's worth investigating of course. We'll see. There was that UK band singer that was very guilty.

Grist for the rumor mill, so far. Or that's as much as I've heard from my friends who keep up with this band.

There seems to never be any shortage of it, with Rammstein.

Using some scandal or crime to try to retroactively justify your distatse for a piece of art never makes you look cool or intelligent.

Honestly, hardly took a genius mind to feel something was off with that mysogynistic PoS

I'm not sure how much you know about Lindemann but he wrote several published "poems" that were basically just deeply misogynistic rape fantasies. And while this was in line with the whole shtick the band always had going on with their super cheap "be shocking for shock and outrage's sake", the poetry was extra skeevy. And he was criticized for it only for all criticism to be shouted down because it was just ~☆art☆~.
Only to learn that huh, maybe not so much.

Yeah. It reminds me of when people are told someone did something bad, and their immediate reaction is belief and "see, I knew it, I never liked them" ... regardless of whether that was true or not, and often without their having given any hint of holding that opinion, before.

Maybe that's not what's going on with the OP and this particular singer, but it's still my main association with the behavior.

Ignoring and celebrating misogyny in favour of some dude's ~artistic expression~ is worse imo.

I was more uncomfortable with the way he pretended to bully his keyboardist onstage and the unnecessary bodymod on Till's mouth.

Everyone's artistic expression should be protected even if it makes you uncomfortable. You can find it tacky and vile and just avoid it all you want.

Not really, I would have been happier if what they had done was only for the cheap shock value and not actually real.

Glad to read this, because it doesn't come across this way in the secret at all...

I can see why this is a secret. I've been on the receiving end of smug vindication after a sad event from someone without the OP's awareness. Feels pretty bad.

Sorry this happened to you. To be clear, I would never go up to any Rammstein fan and be an asshole about this to them. It's more an internal "gee look, the guy with the creepy rape poetry from that band that I never liked because of their cheap trashy shock value gimmick is an actual asshole, whodathunk" thing for me. Which I do have to say is kinda a conflicting emotion for me because I normally subscribe firmly to the "fiction=/= reality and artist=/=opinions expressed in their art" belief

SA -- I understand, sometimes it's good to get things off your chest and talk about your thoughts a little, as long as it's done with sensitivity, and I can see you've thought of that.

no real comment on this just a little sad chuckle that anyone thinks "men writing about wanting to rape" is like...transgressive. what society doesn't accept and defend such men, I would like to know lmao. it's like less transgressive in art lololol.

Rammsteins lyrics really fall under transgressive though. They are not just about rape but about a lot of taboo and dark subjects. I also think that it's oversimplifying to say "he writes about wanting to rape women" when "telling stories from the agressors'/obvious villains' perspective" is much closer to reality but welp

For those specific poems, it’s not oversimplification, and what you consider closer to reality is just your opinion.
