Last movie
In theater: Indy 5. really enjoyed. Before that it was Honor Among Thieves, which I really loved.
At Home: rewatched Galaxy Quest. Will always love that movie.
Re: Last movie
Last movie at home was Tetris. It was a little long and slow in places but fun all the same.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-02 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)At home: Encanto or The Suicide Squad (whichever came out later), which was also the last movie I watched in general.
I'm just not a movie person in general, I guess. I can go years without watching a movie.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-02 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)I absolutely love Across the Spiderverse, hence seeing it twice! And I would have liked to see it a third time there, but I’ll probably wait until it’s streaming for that. It was even better than the first imo, which is saying a lot considering how much I love the first! I can’t wait for the third!(even though I know it’s been delayed, but what can you do :/)
I liked The Little Mermaid, it was very cute. But I don’t see myself rewatching it anytime soon. It didn’t feel as unnecessarily padded as other live-action Disney remakes, but it was a bit too long for me. I still enjoyed it, and I especially loved Halle’s voice and the costume design for Ariel and the queen! Mellisa McCarthy was a fun Ursala, but still not a replacement for the original(although that could go for everyone tbh). But I didn’t like the change of making her Ariel’s aunt. I don’t feel like it added any significant. And while I like Awkwafina, her performance as Scuttle was hit and miss, and I didn’t love her song ‘The Scuttlebut’. The other original songs were fine enough.
As an aside, I love Honor Among Thieves so much as well! I’m not a D&D fan(or a fan of most tabletop RPGs or TCGs). But I knew enough from pop-culture and being on the internet in geeky certain circles for long enough to know most kinds of monsters(like mimics), the different wizard factions, and a lot of the terminology. Although I also knew some stuff from being a big fan of the Fate series, which has the character alignments and stats being directly inspired by D&D. So I got way more of the in-jokes than I expected to. Plus, it was just a great and fun movie, and even people I went with who knew less about D&D loved it! The characters were great, and wonderfully acted! The worldbuilding was cool, and made the world feel authentic and big, without the need for much exposition. And it had just the right balance of humor, drama, and action!

Re: Last movie
Paris is Burning once I could find a movie theater showing something that wasn't superheroes or a toy commercial

We got home and watched There Will Be Blood and Men in Black - films we've seen before and love. Men in Black is obviously another childhood nostalgia trip. Says it all that the recommendation that popped up after Men in Black was the third one, nobody wants to watch the second it seems!
Re: Last movie
(Anonymous) 2023-07-03 12:07 am (UTC)(link)I enjoyed it very much. I'd put off watching it because I remember the book ending - Paul Gallico likes to tug at the heartstrings - but the screenwriters tweaked it enough to put a smile on my face. I especially liked how they tied it in with all the stuff that was going on in Paris at the time, and the sudden philosophical discussions that people kept having - even in London afterwards. And the frocks were to die for. Wonderful.
