And, in a lot of the very few shows that go the abortion route, they always make sure to have at least one (main or side) character having an abortion and getting all weepy and sad and 'omg, my baaaaaaaaaaaybeeeeeeeeee!!' about it. Just to show that even though it's a CHOICE YOU GET, you'll be all sad and fucked up about it most likely.
They did a pretty good job of it in 'Shameless', and an excellent job of it in 'Sex Education'. I can't think of any others, sadly.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-02 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)If I remember correctly she choose that because she already has grown up children (like middle or high school?) and she wanted to concentrate on her career. Her husband is fully supportive and even relieved.
So far it's my favourite because it's treated like it's not something tragic nor character defying. Like. It happens. And then it's not mentioned ever again, I think.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-03 04:08 am (UTC)(link)Entirely disconnected from all practical considerations, it was a loss, but considering what it would have meant to try to raise a second baby at a time when she was already stretched too thin taking care of existing people, it wouldn't have been fair to anyone involved to try to keep it. Starting with her.
But ... there's very little media in the world that seems prepared to deal with the emotional nuance of its being something that was loving. Which it was.
I'll check out your recs if I can, thanks.
