That's been a thing since the beginning, though usually the translators turn these into more fantastic-ish names (like Tina into Terra or Aaron into Auron). Wonder why they stopped?

They probably stopped because the new translators were purists.

Which is a shame, because "Sara" would have a completely different and less ethereal/princess-like aura than "Schala," now that I think about it

It is nice to have fantasy names come to think of it, even if it’s going to be kinda Aerith and Bob sometimes.
