Do you have any Reading Goals?

(Anonymous) 2023-07-09 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
Just posting this under books because it's related? Idk. Curious if anyone else has yearly reading goals or does the goodreads reading challenge and how you're doing on it.

I am doing the goodreads challenge and made my goal 24 books for the year. I've read 17 so far.

I normally do 52, one a week. I've met it the last several years except last year, when I only read 42. This year I vowed to read more, so I decided to do 62 to keep with the twos because why not. I've only read 29 so far so I'm a bit behind but I should have some more free time coming up soon so I'm hoping I can catch up.

I use Goodreads for recs and reviews but for actually keeping track of what I read/reading goals, I use an app called My Reading Record (which isn't a great name, but it's a good app!)

Dang I'm impressed! I have a few learning disabilities and reading is a chore (a chore I enjoy!) so that plus a busy schedule means I just am never going to make numbers like a book a week. It used to bother me, but now I just do me and am happily impressed when others have the talent and capacity for more.

I picked 50 for the year because it seemed like a nice reasonable number but the person doing 52 makes more sense lol!

I am at 44 so far.

Also adding that I use Storygraph and not Goodreads because I find Storygraph a plainer/nicer interface and I like being able to review in 0.25 star increments.

I'm finding these numbers dubious. The general level of reading and viewing comprehension in this community does not suggest a population that reads more than a couple books a year.

Man the trolling is strong on this post. I wonder of you are all just one bitter killjoy or if for some reason this post just attracted the trolls.

Twitter’s dead and Reddit’s dying. They had to go somewhere.

I broke my reading goal up into types of books because I wanted to have more variety in what I read, so 2 novels, 2 non-fiction, 2 graphic novels, 2 novels in the language I'm learning. I made my goals kind of low because I wanted to reach them without without much pressure, and so that I can extend/alter them once they're done.
