I've never understood the point of taking away the appealing aspect of a ship, problematic or otherwise, if you're out there fundamentally changing the basic framework of a ship then... why are you even into it in the first place? It makes no sense to me.

This. When I like a fucked-up ship, it's always BECAUSE it's fucked up. That's the whole draw. Take that away and I wouldn't be into the ship in the first place.
