The self righteous in-fic justification sounds annoying and insecure. But I don't agree with you on disliking psychological drama. When I read darker fic, I love fics that get into the characters' emotions and mental states! I guess cause I find it an interesting character study, and because I read stuff like that for catharsis, so the more psychologically involved the better, typically. I do get what you're saying about wanting a fantasy to just be a fantasy without bringing realism into it, I've definitely felt that way about some fics that I wish stayed more in the realm of fantasy. I think it's a matter of personal preference and what draws you to reading about heavier subject matter in fiction.
