AYRT - I have never been in the kind of situation where someone actively lies/pretends they watched the thing they didn't for too long, so maybe this is why I don't get where the hatred comes from? Is it a case of "they pretended to be in that fandom and profited from it but were lying"? What's it, who hurt you?

NART

The liar. The liar hurt us.

AYRT - Please do tell me about the liar I want to know. It doesn't seem like they lied only about watching a show or not.

I'm guessing you were never bullied as a child for being weird? Lots of faking that they're interested in the same thing as you, watched the same shows, read the same books, only to laugh in your face in front of their friends that you didn't ACTUALLY think they liked something so stupid, did you?? How could you possibly think it's normal for someone to like that? What a freak.

AYRT - I was bullied a LOT as a child for being weird. But they never pretended to be interested in the same things as me, they merely pointed and laughed because "haha look at her and her weird hobbies! How could anyone possibly think it's normal to like that?" . Maybe my bullies weren't as backhanded. Or maybe I really am just so ND that I never realized my friends from school didn't actually like the same things, who knows.

Don't know which is worse, honestly. I got the stealth fake friendliness, so I don't take well to any kind of lying. In my experience it means that the person lying to me is disrespectful at best and actively malicious at worst. I was once invited over to a "friend"'s house because they said they liked the video game I liked and invited me to come play. Got over there and was assaulted by their brother and his friends. I have no idea how far they would have gone, because thankfully their mom came home early and took me home.

I don't like liars. For any reason.

I have been in that position a few times at work. No, I have no idea why they did it. I’m not someone who talks about media much anyway and have a reputation for that and for also being totally chill about “no” responses.

In most cases the person who lied has later gone on to prove that they are untrustworthy in much bigger ways. And I truly believe that the vast majority of compulsive liars over 25 are completely untrustworthy. Because that’s the thing about compulsive lying, they just do it. No thought behind it, it isn’t manipulation, it’s an actual compulsion to reflexively lie. No story they tell is believable. No answer they give can be trusted. And I make no apologies for not wanting to be around people like that *shrug*

"I lied about this one thing in a specific instance" is not "compulsive lying"

You clearly have damage.
