Re: Sinead O'Connor passed away.

The thing is, no one knew that was what she was protesting. It really wasn’t clear and she didn’t elaborate for a long time.
She also went on to do a lot of genuinely shitty things over the years and it’s really surprising how many people are suddenly calling her their personal hero the last 12 hours. I feel bad for her what she went through and hope she’s found peace but her death doesn’t change the fact that she was honestly a terrible human being.

What terrible things did she do? Genuine question.

She abandoned each of her kids one after the other, for a start. Her false accusations against Prince didn’t win her any points, either. She was a violent psychopath and while it’s most likely the result of her traumas, trauma only explains the behavior, it doesn’t excuse it. The only one of her kids she cared about killed himself a year ago and even before he went missing there was a vibe that her connection with him was more romantic than maternal.

SA I’m wrong to say she abandoned all of her kids, she only abandoned three of them. Shane was taken from her for his own protection.

I honestly don't know much about her besides her music and the SNL protest. What shitty things did she do?

She was anti nukes at the height of the cold war, hated the British Royal family while they were still actually popular, shaved her head when fashion was about women being ultra feminine, spoke up for vegetarianism, back before Mad Cow disease was a thing, so... she did nothing wrong. The Tabloid press however, especially the British Tabloid Press, were fucking insane over her though. They really went for her in a way that even by todays standards is crazy rabid.

Sinead, nothing compares to you. Hope you are at peace, whereever.

Yes I can well believe the tabloids roasted her for all that. Fuck the press.

RIP Sinead.

Perhaps the only thing she did was tweet that she hated white people and found them disgusting.

Her conversion to Islam was pretty cringey. Not because there is anything wrong with Islam but because of her actions surrounding it. Plus her lifelong history of random religious fanaticism, which is of course a giant red flag even in the mental health community.

With all the abuse she suffered in her younger years, it's obvious she was seeking comfort. And I think she always believed in a God.

I think a lot of the reverence of the last 24 hours is because of others being so much like you, just knowing one or two things about her. She was honestly a horrible person. Her mental health and past traumas explain her actions but don’t excuse it. Especially if it’s true she sexually abused her son who killed himself.

Bullshit. I'm older than her, and even when I was a kid the joke was that the fastest way to get a girl pregnant was to dress her up as an altarboy. We all knew about what went on in those Girls Homes, Laundries, and Seminaries. Everyone knew. Even back then. It just wasn't the thing to say it out loud in any serious way. Sinead spoke up, used her platform, and got excoriated for it. But there was no putting that genie back in the bottle after it, she pulled out the first stone that brought the rotten edifice down.

Your reading comprehension needs some work.

No one knew that was what she was protesting. As you’re older than she, perhaps you’ll recall a little thing called The Troubles. Her protest and calling the pope evil was received as anti-Catholic, pro-British sentiment. Which is laughable based on what we know of her now but doesn’t change the fact it wasn’t clear to almost anyone at the time that she was protesting CSA within the Catholic Church.

You are the one who has trouble comprehending. I understood her message very well, her message was understood, what you are spouting is the propaganda that was leveled at her via the British press. I'd advise you to stop, and also perhaps read a bit more widely beyond Page 3.

…I’m one of the millions of Americans who saw the live broadcast and didn’t understand her protest LOL You understood it and so did some others but it was like two years before the masses knew what it was about. And that was only because she finally elaborated, which she had refused to do for a long time.
