I have no opinion on this movie but can we please not misgender Ezra Miller in the comments. They're an awful person and this is not me defending them, it's just, still transphobic to misgender people even if they suck.

What's their gender? I was assuming male but your reply seems to imply otherwise? Perhaps instead of whiney you could have gone for a more informative approach.

da they are non-binary and use they/them pronouns

(Anonymous) 2023-07-30 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Anon, there is absolutely no reason for the people commenting on this secret to know what Ezra Miller's preferred pronouns are.

If you know enough about someone to write a paragraph about how they're an awful person, you should know enough about them to know their pronouns. Your information had to come from somewhere, and I doubt those somewheres all talked about Ezra Miller's actions without ever using a pronoun.

I'm not one of the people upthread accusing them of being an awful person. But I can tell you that it's absolutely possible to read detailed articles about that without knowing their pronouns. Either because the media didn't care or because the stuff about parents complaining Miller was inappropriate with their twelve-year-old is distracting.

+100000

Also, plenty of people likely just heard about Ezra's violent assaults, creepy cult behavior, plus possibly-grooming-a-minor shit via word of mouth, and it's not at all improbable that the people they heard about it from used male pronouns.

I'm willing to bet my car that some of the other commenters are deliberately misgendering Ezra Miller to express their disdain.

Or in this case, ignorance. I for one don't know who Ezra Miller is, except that they've done some bad stuff (??? I don't know what) or something and I wouldn't know what pronouns Miller prefers unless someone told me.

Meh. The last time I checked the wiki it still said "uses they/them but is also okay with he/him" and sure, that may have changed by now but I don't think I have to keep up with the preferred pronouns of a pedophilic violent groomer and abuser especially when the person in question was still okay with male pronouns not so long ago and only seems to really have doubled down on the queer stuff after noticing how it works wonders in shutting people up about the crap they pull.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-31 05:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreed with all of above.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-31 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Wouldn't rule out that being the intent, but I'm more concerned about its working the other way - associating politeness rules the LGBTQIA+ community supports with people who are unapologetically hitting on children.

I doubt it'll convince leftists that Miller's actually a wholesome person. But making middle-of-the-road types associate skeeviness with a highly visible they/them ... that's easier. Unfortunately.

??? Of 17 other comments so far, I only see two that misgender them and one is semi-debatable.
