There are so many copies in circulation (new and used) that this likely doesn't have much impact one way or another. I don't see this as either a win against JKR or the book burning some replies have made it out to be. If it's cathartic I suppose that's a reason to do it, but to me it seems fruitless and wasteful, since anyone else buying the book secondhand is already not paying that money to JKR, and the cost you're putting into this nonsense could go to supporting trans-related organizations or directly to trans individuals in need of support, if bettering trans people's lives is important to you. I even have my suspicions this secret may be a troll, since I find the idea quite silly to be honest. I am not a fan of JKR whatsoever but I feel that focusing on the Harry Potter books alone is pretty pointless and reduces the issue to a purely fandom gripe.

I think we all in the comments just assume that OP doesn't do anything good. Maybe they donate and do charity work etc. Or maybe not. Frankly, burning books just seems like a fun cathartic idea

ayrt

I don't assume they do nothing, rather that if their specific goal is to help trans rights in some way, this is far less effective than other ways of using the cash. This doesn't actually prevent anyone from reading JKR and doesn't oppose TERFs in any meaningful way. If the goal is indeed only catharsis, it's certainly their right to use some of their own money for this specific purpose, though I still find it odd.

AYRT Yeah I agree that is not a way to help any trans person. I am just sort of tired that we see the worst in people
also I want to burn some books ngl

That's because useless shit like that is usually done by slacktivists who don't actually do anything good other than posturing online.
