OP: I'll destroy anything from this terf with my own hands! Gimme me that, second hand market.

What actually happens: Wow, the Harry Potter books are selling well! Time to catch more books in good quality for the sale.

To think you could spend your time and money on things that actually help trans people. But alas, you're just a self-righteous, virtue signalling slacktivists.

(Anonymous) 2023-10-14 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
This is all going to seem very odd in 20 years.

(Anonymous) 2023-10-14 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
in 20 years? It seems very odd now how people think that destroying a book like that "saves trans people", when donating to orgs do it way better.

Why? You’re making it more difficult for those who want to buy HP books without giving JKR more money. You’re not helping anyone, you’re doing the exact opposite.

Also, it’s highly unlikely those books are getting recycled unless you actually prepared them for recycling. The covers and binding aren’t recyclable and less than 5% of municipal recycling collection in the whole world is sent somewhere that will separate the recyclable material from non recyclable in mixed products. If your recycling doesn’t go straight to the landfill, as over 40% of American recycling does, then those books will get diverted to the trash at the recycling center.

Good news for libraries, where people could borrow the book if they're desperate enough to read it?

I think full paperbacks are recyclable? I know hardcovers aren't (and so I was negligent in not pulling the cover off that Rush Limbaugh book I found in a box of books my family had to donate/sell).

Ah yes, the old "Book burning/destruction is bad, but not when I do it because the author is bad!!!" tactic.

(not saying your hatred of JKR is unfounded, because I totally agree that TERFS need to have their lips permanently sewn together, but this is laughable considering that your destruction of HP books is just, as another anon said, making it harder for people to buy them secondhand without giving JKR more money.)

(Anonymous) 2023-10-14 09:42 am (UTC)(link)
Most people who preach against book burning and banning mean it in regards to laws, books banned by school boards, and libraries refusing to carry certain books. Nobody gives a shit if some rando wants to burn a book in their yard, other than finding it distasteful.

(Anonymous) 2023-10-14 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
Its kind of funny how people are freaking out in the comments about 'book burning' Harry Potter of all things. Even without taking into account that HP books are probably over produced anyways from past hype and current disposals of peoples collections:
-Libraries exist. Just borrow and keep your local library in business.
-Digital copies exist - even better, you can pirate those digital copies.
-There are better books to read than Harry Potter at this point in the year 2023, why go through the bother of lowering your IQ to read some meh magical series when Percy Jackson is right there.

(Anonymous) 2023-10-14 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
I would like to see OP trying to get HP out of libraries, buying all the digital copies to then delete them or showing support to those better books than HP. They would look like SpongeBob breaking many of the clocks that Squirdward had in the "Employee of the Month" ep.

Percy Jackson is meh tho. So is Harry Potter for the most part, but it holds nostalgic value for a lot of us that won't be fixed by reading another mediocre kids fantasy series for the first time.

(Anonymous) 2023-10-14 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
It'd be better to spend your time and effort on evangelizing to anyone who will listen about how badly written the books are.

Knowing Jo is a terf makes me regret not shitting on her books more back in the day. When I do it now, people think I'm just mad at Rowling's transphobia, which I am, but I genuinely disliked the Harry Potter books from the first page I read.

(Anonymous) 2023-10-14 09:46 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, another one who's happy there's another TERF doing damage out in the world because she happens to be the author of books you hate and now you look smart for hating the books before everyone else did.

(Anonymous) 2023-10-14 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
This is so dumb and pointless.

(Anonymous) 2023-10-14 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
There are so many copies in circulation (new and used) that this likely doesn't have much impact one way or another. I don't see this as either a win against JKR or the book burning some replies have made it out to be. If it's cathartic I suppose that's a reason to do it, but to me it seems fruitless and wasteful, since anyone else buying the book secondhand is already not paying that money to JKR, and the cost you're putting into this nonsense could go to supporting trans-related organizations or directly to trans individuals in need of support, if bettering trans people's lives is important to you. I even have my suspicions this secret may be a troll, since I find the idea quite silly to be honest. I am not a fan of JKR whatsoever but I feel that focusing on the Harry Potter books alone is pretty pointless and reduces the issue to a purely fandom gripe.

(Anonymous) 2023-10-14 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
I think we all in the comments just assume that OP doesn't do anything good. Maybe they donate and do charity work etc. Or maybe not. Frankly, burning books just seems like a fun cathartic idea

LOL, this does absolutely nothing except bring JK Rowling more money. Harry Potter is as popular as ever.

I'm so glad that she hasn't folded under the pressure of the attempted cancelling from all you men's rights apologists.

(Anonymous) 2023-10-15 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup, this. How fast we went from #MeToo and 'Believe women!' to 'only believe the people pretending to be women, fuck the real ones' and 'only gender-special lived experience is valid, your actual lived experience as a real woman is not'. Amazing.

Book Nazi. You're no better than people that burn books. Let individuals make up their own minds about Harry Potter books and JK Rowling.

So you're basically a book burner? Pro-censorship has become a liberal virtue signal, a far cry from liberalism meaning freedom.

I get where you're coming from, but you're contaminating that recycling stream. Books (even paperbacks) aren't just paper.
