That's because they're all basically propaganda to convince conservative women they're superior by being traditional.

I would love to see a Christmas movie network that does work as good as fic writers do! Even the "go back to the hometown" cliche fics are lovely compared to this Hallmark shit.

Well, mostly I think it's because their audience wants to see the same movie over and over and they know that.

+1

Simplest explanation, almost certainly the correct one

This is the reason, really. They wouldn't keep cranking out the same formulaic stuff if it didn't sell, and for many people, they don't want something too challenging or stressful. Hallmark movies are (I imagine, never seen one) a predictable comfort watch.

Yup. And there are that type of formulaism in other genres too, it just doesn't get judged quite as much.

As a mid forties woman, I am their target audience. I want them to do something different too.

Honestly, I'd be more interested in either a MST3K style riff on these or for all of them to enter the public domain so we can easily get spinoff movies about the background characters. Bonus points if the spinoffs are all over the top comedies.

Hallmark movies aren't a thing in my country (not yet, although TLC, who is kind of a niche channel around here, pushes them right now), and reading all the comments, I hope they never will be. Or at least stay in their current niche.

It's brutally painful to see something mediocre that could have been amazing.

But also I can't hate on Halmark movies too hard because 1) they aren't rammed down my throat and 2) action movies do the same damned thing over and over too. I'm used to the repetition?
