I mean they very clearly explain why they love it and it has nothing to do with patronizing? Did you not understand the secret?

It was a simpler time, with a smaller community, and people by those who unironically loved their stories and their community instead of those who were only there to compete with each other in who could be the biggest jerk or push their own little agenda the farthest. These days it'd just be outrage fodder.

God, fandom sucks these days.

That's been me with all media since the late 90s. If it's straight, I have zero interest. I got bored of all the formulaic het plot lines in highschool. Gimme all the gay!

Party-Boy, Space-Slut, Kirk.

That is just not supported in the OG canon at all.

Come to that, the spacebattles, evul communist, Federation is just an alt-character interp of Star Trek in total, and I wish it'd go away too.

I think the problem is basically that, by being an episode about Mulder's sister, it gets caught up in the broader series problem of having no idea WTF to do with Mulder's sister. If it was the only episode where they dealt with Mulder's sister, it'd be a different story possibly.

You were dropped on your head as a child, weren't you...

Is different because it doesn't use stock images or stuff that the own artist upload with their consent. Most of AI programs use drawings/paintings made even from artist that still hold their copyrights (I'm not talking about old drawings, I'm talking about actual artists). It wouldn't be a problem if was done for personal purposes or wanting to find an idea t draw, but these days most of corporations are using AI because is cheaper/easier, even if poor lil Jimmy has 6 fingers, three eyes and the perspective of the "pic" is wrong.

Peoples' hatred of AI extends way over and above its effect on job markets or things of that nature.

I prefer the movie version of Ron Weasley. I would say the fan version, but those are equally split between himbo ditz version, and evil puppy raper version. I don't like the latter one.

Kirk was a nerd who drank his respect-women-juice every morning with breakfast.

Nah, either their mom snacked on paint chips during the pregnancy or their hair is hiding some coat hanger scars.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-29 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
There are AI tools that don't violate copyrights - Adobe's AI thing is made entirely using images they had the rights to or public domain, and people were still furious about it.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-29 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
And rightly so. There's a level of existential dread to AI - the fact that human creativity is at risk of being replaced by machine creativity is something that should worry everyone, artists and non-artists alike.

When the fuck was this, the stone age

Jesus, dude

People are being weirdly hostile towards the technology itself in this case though. I see the same people who would usually look at job loss in some industry being automated and say "this is a systemic problem of capitalism" are looking at generative AI and saying "this specific technology is bad and shouldn't exist". If you haven't seen that, good for you I guess, but it's definitely a thing and it's weird.

I do like the evil Insaneway version of Janeway from Voyager. The campy Ming the Merciless in a Starfleet universe, Harry Kim torturing, planet conquering version of Janeway.

Captain Janeway, we, the hostile aliens of the week, accuse you of genocide!

Canon Janeway: Okay, this is a misunderstanding everyone to the meeting room to work out how to solve this.

Insaneway: You're gonna have to be more specific than that, are we talking this week or just in general? Bah, bored anyway, Tuvok, one torpedo, maximum yield, and write "Fuck you" on it so they get the message!

That Janeway.

AI is rapidly replacing an entire human workforce. That's why people are furious and scared half to death. We are entering a stage of economic crisis directly because of the advent of AI's increasing efficiency and mass available usage.

To stick with the MCU, I like fandom Steve better than movie Steve just because they were so goddamned uneven with his character. His first movie starts off with him committing a felony, but then with the Avengers movie he becomes some 50s WASPy asshole with a stick in his ass about swearing, only to return to being the character in his own movie in CATWS where he can snark with Natasha after she kicks a dude of a roof. I started getting whiplash.

I mean, I'd definitely also be in the target audience for ridiculously dramatic queer fae court stories, that sounds fun as hell. (Soo, anyone have recs?)

It's rare that I don't end up preferring fanon versions of characters after awhile.

I've always like the fan interpretation of Ryouga in Ranma One Half to being just in love with Ranma but so utterly repressed and emotion starved, that he has no way to express the emotions he feels but with violence.

Dazai not being Dazai. Sure, he's a womanizer, have a grim attitude specially in Port Mafia and jokes about finding a way to kill himself with a woman next to him, but I don't see him being lovey-dovey with his rivals or not tease his friends.

I'm not a fan of the original version of Dracula's character (love the book though) but adore many fan adaptions of Dracula.
