For me it was Panic at the Disco. I saw one rpf au and thought it was interesting and suddenly I'm deep in fic and watching videos of the band on youtube. Never even got into the music, was just suddenly sucked into the fandom.

Not joking when I say the pandemic lead me there. I mainly had access to youtube in my down time and got obsessed with a series that was largely popular with drama ridden teenagers. Still, the fanfics were good.

Those Artur/Eames AUs got me good.

Absolutely. How did I end up that invested in a relationship between two characters who barely interact in canon.

In my defense, there were some really good fanfics in that fandom. With that being said, I was mostly in the fandom during the hiatus after series 2. Once series 3 began, I never went back lol.

the worst part is that i didn't even LIKE the fics. i barely enjoyed the show. i was just so swept up in the tumblr community of enjoying something together, lol. embarrassing, i know.

Nah I get it, I spent the s2 hiatus gobbling up all the fic and enjoying the fandom memes, then when s3 rolled around my interest in the fandom had waned and I really noticed the shit writing in the new season. I ended up wandering off and shrugging at that fandom time in my life. I don't regret it but that was one of the few times I got swept up by other people into a big m/m ship, normally I wander into them on my own if I do happen to align with the current m/m ship du jour.

what's wrong with that fandom?

Sherlock for me too. I got weirded out and left after the secret season conspiracies.

I still can’t remember how my friend got me into watching the show but that was a very deep rabbit hole full of crazy for like a year.

God same. I went hard on that fandom and looking back, how and why did that happen?

I got into it because all the people I followed who were into SPN switched to TW.

I recently fell into the rabbit hole of reading Teen Wolf fic despite not having scene even one episode of the show. No idea how that happened, especially since I stayed far away while the fandom was at its heyday.

AYRT I think I may have gotten on through fic, too. Either my friend was so excited about a fic and desperately wanted someone to talk to about it or maybe needed a beta reader, which I think I might have done for a couple fics in our two shared fandoms.

I never got into ABO and knotting is a hard pass but that still left some really good fic. And I was a multishipper which always makes any fandom (and canon) more fun.

I've been reading Avatar the Last Airbender fic despite only watching like two episodes. :/

Three years ago I was led to the fringes of Charmie.
I left not long after that.

Hetalia.

Oh man Hetalia was everywhere for awhile.

Harry Styles fanfic. Pandemic. I don't even like one direction, and I've only gotten into his music (a little)last year. Yet, 2020/2021, I was drinking up tattooed rich rockstar chooses YOU. bonus points if he was a bad boy.

and then there was that one monsterfucker fic from that game everyone was playing with space men trying to kill each other and imposters...man. the pandemic was a time.

I often fall into action fandoms like MI movies or Bond or Die Hard when I am depressed. Not even that of a fan of this franchises.
It's been a really bad day so here we come again

HBO Chernobyl/ All I can say in my defence is that I watched the first 2 1/2 eps on a long, long flight and my brain was susceptible, and the two leads were damn good at what they did.

I somehow found myself reading Susan/Rick fics from the movie "Spy". I was in deep with that pair for a couple weeks. I honestly can't even recall how I ended up there XD
IIRC this was pre-2020, so the COVID pandemic doesn't explain how I ended up there
