I don't do TikTok, so the Riley Strain one never crossed my path, but the princess conspiracy nonsense did blow up somewhere where I am, and I am SO WITH YOU, here. The sudden drop off (aside from a few posts mocking all the overblown conspiracy theories) has been one hell of a relief.

What is everyone doing?

I am staying home this weekend and not doing anything in particular. My sister is sick so might be trying Phasmo on my own. 😨 Other than that, crocheting and going on some long morning walks if the weather cooperates.

Decompressing now that we know why our internet was acting weird (our modem was just too damn old. Hey, 7 years of good use from a thrift store find is not too shabby) and hoping I will FINALLY get the last few screws to assemble my desk (protip: if you have an old IKEA drawer set you want to use as part of a ALEX/desktop combo, try ordering extra screws well in advance).

I just indulged in way too much food that has a high chance of causing future me great pain, so I'm spending my time tensed for misery.

The delivery person delivered the wrong order and there was this whole cock up so I said f it I'll just eat what I have. It was delicious, as most forbidden food tends to be.

As for the rest of my weekend, there's a garden show happening that I'm looking forward to if the weather holds!

Putting the cushions back on the outdoor sofa and bullying my wife into helping me take my measurements so I can order some clothes. I meant to do this during the week, but my knee has been so tight I can't actually kneel on it to get the cushions tied on. So I've spent my time sitting around with a heating pad instead.

My original plan was to attend a protest of the new Texas immigration law on Sunday. But as of today I have some sort of cold/flu thing that isn't COVID but does involve a slight fever. So now plan is lots of sleep, kitty time, and watching either Doctor Who or Supernatural.

I freelance from home and my partner’s weekends are actually in the middle of the week so usually I just respond with whatever I have planned for the next few days. I never go shopping or anything because the stores are so crowded compared to during the week. Amazingly, I don’t have anything planned for the next few days. I’m recovering from some medical stuff and just lounging around with the pets. I might play Skyrim because I got a new controller at Christmas that I’ve only used once. It’s gorgeous and expensive and I feel guilty I haven’t used it.

I watched Rustin and I agree with this review: "An awful film with a tremendous lead performance." I hope Colman Domingo gets some better work soon.

I am in Moscow, Russia so all my plans went to shit. Well I am glad it's the worst I've got. Probably going to sleep, watch The Terror and go buy some coffee - I am low on it. Maybe will do some work

Comic/Manga Adaptations

Sort of based on #7 - do you have any that you like in particular, or do you think most adaptations failed to get the manga/comic across onto the screen?

It was to be honest really, really silly, but I actually quite enjoyed the Netflix Bleach movie that came out several years ago now. I mostly just had fun? Which was all I was after but there were some story choices I didn't like so much but I otherwise liked it.

I've actually enjoyed pretty much all of the adaptations of Death Note, excluding the netflix one because I still haven't seen it. Although I wouldn't say they're accurate adaptations by any means - I've had fun watching the live action series, movies, anime and versions of the musical.
Even more so with the TV series and Musicals that have offered an alternate way to view the series. With the TV version, it offers an idea of what it would be like if Light had to be his little sister's main caretaker after losing his mom - and with the musical versions its interesting to see how the songs can offer more to characters like Sayu and Light's Dad. They're not perfect by any means, but I still like them.

I really enjoyed Netflix’s One Piece, which is kinda weird ‘cause I never liked the anime or manga. I gave the anime another go after finishing the live action series, but I still didn’t like it.

Netflix’s Death Note, on the other hand, was really bad. I liked Ryuk and L, but all the other characters were really dumb.

I love the One Piece live action and am excited for what they'll do with the rest of the story.

The live action adaptation of Seven Days was also really good, I think. A lot easier to adapt since it's BL slice of life, though.

I am once again out here talking about how shitty The Old Guard comics are and how the Netflix movie was an improvement over them in so many ways.

I really loved The Umbrella Academy comics when they came out, but I also think the Netflix show improves on several weak spots in the comics. I'm going to miss that show when it ends.

I also have a soft spot for 2009 Watchmen. It was almost faithful to a fault as an adaptation, but I liked seeing those iconic moments on the big screen.

Did somebody rec a long Call of Duty fic here a bit ago? I vaguely recall a long angsty slashfic rec that I was interested in but never clicked and can't remember if it was in this comm or somewhere else. I thought it was CoD but it might have been some other military type video game. Sorry how vague all that is.

For me it was Panic at the Disco. I saw one rpf au and thought it was interesting and suddenly I'm deep in fic and watching videos of the band on youtube. Never even got into the music, was just suddenly sucked into the fandom.
