I grew up in the UK and because of that I have a few comfort shows that still crack me up:

Black Books
Red Dwarf
The Young Ones
Allo' Allo'
Blackadder (series 2 and 3)

I love all your picks, but I must say that Black Books holds a special place in my heart. It hit just the right humour note for me. And as you say, it still makes me crack up when I rewatch it.

The Good Place, Brooklyn 99, and New Girl are probably my favorites.

I just did a New Girl rewatch and there are a few episodes that are just too 2ndhand embarrassing for me to watch but overall that show is just gold with how fucking weird and funny it is.

Galavant. How I Met Your Mother. The Simpsons in the early years. Futurama, also early years. Night Court. Police Squad! (amazing and should have run longer).

Does The Good Place count? Does Monk count? Both are mixed genres but with a lot of comedy elements.

I used to love Night Court. I had a big crush on John Larroquette like I do on Hugh Laurie now, I must be hardwired to like tall snarky guys.

Police Squad! was terrific but by all reports it was already running out of gags. That level of writing is really hard to sustain!

Interesting. What I heard was that the network decided that audiences wouldn't get that type of comedy and so pulled the plug on it.

DA
That's what I heard as well. I think it was Leslie Nielson who mentioned it in an interview.

If it's true it was a shame. Police Squad is genuinely one of the funniest shows I've ever seen.

I need to mention Newsradio because it's so funny and you can actually watch it.

Everyone go watch it now. Start with episode 2, the pilot is pretty bad.
