Looking for someone who knits AND crochets!

[personal profile] kaijinscendre 2024-04-14 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
What crochet stitch can I switch for the knit ones (stocking stitch and rib stitch)?

My sister got a me a crochet kit, not realizing it was a crochet/knit kit. I don't knit. I just tried watching some vids for casting on, stocking stitch, and rib stitch. It was super confusing and with the tiny yarn I am using, not sure if I can do it. It also has a pattern that is just a bunch of squares. I am still going to try and practice it with some larger yarn.

But just in case, I am looking for crochet stitches that might be a good replacement and how should I convert it. Some of the pattern is below.

I knit and crochet, and honestly, there aren’t any really good crochet substitutes for stockinette. May I recommend Knit Purl Hunter? I really like her videos for teaching knitting.
Good luck with this!

Thanks! I'll give them a shot. I watched a vid on casting on today and it just made no sense at all. I just want my one loop, lol.

Stretching

(Anonymous) 2024-04-15 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
Random but anyone have a good rec for a stretching routine? I tore two muscles in my legs last year and they have finally healed enough to get back to gentle workouts and I'd like to start to incorporate a good stretching routine to try and avoid another muscle tearing experience. Do not recommend.

Yes, I do. It’s old, but it’s good. It’s called Back in Shape by Stephen Hochschuler. It’s obviously focused on the back, but many of the stretches also help with the legs, shoulders, torso…I used this book after I tore my glute and had to rehab it, and some of his stretches were exactly what I needed.
I also used The Science of the Stretch by Leada Malek.
I hope they help!

Oh The Science of Stretch looks right up my alley. I love the visuals. Ty!

This is a whole-body stretching routine that I really enjoy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-VXIVZXYyFo

I don't know much about prevention of muscle tears, so I'm not sure if the leg stretches in this routine would be helpful for your particular circumstances, but it may work for you.

Thank you! So far the advice I have for preventing tears is to ease back into exercising slowly and to make sure to take plety of time for gentle stretches. So fingers crossed.
