We really need another round of myxomatosis, there are just too many goddamn rabbits around right now. It is legit causing problems with woodland regeneration and run off erosion.

They need to make rabbit meat more popular.

Tastes just like chicken, very lean chicken. Make sure it isn't shot with leadshot though. Microcontamination from leadshot is a very real thing.

DA
To me rabbit tastes nothing like chicken. I do eat rabbit quite often, both from the supermarket and fresh from the farmer (we have a friend with hens and rabbits).
It has a way stronger taste than chicken. and IDK it's just different. Maybe it's more similar to pheasant's meat?

cook it very thoroughly and wash your hands before and after you touch raw rabbit meat. You do NOT want to get tularemia.

Thanks for the advice, kind nonny. Luckily I'm very wary of raw meat/fish in general so I take a lot of precautions. :)
We also don't have that many cases of tularaemia here. I've never heard of anyone getting it in my area and even trying to googling it it seems pretty rare if almost non-existent in my country. Maybe that's why we regularly eat rabbit. Who knows!

Too much of a pain in the ass to cook.

Buy it already dressed and throw it in the slow cooker with some onions, potatoes, carrots, chili, garlic and a couple of bay leaves. Maybe a bit of fenugreek too, if you feel fancy. Pour some water over it, leave it for a few hours. How hard is that.

Too many little bones, innit

1) Not everyplace sells rabbit meat
2) If it's more expensive than chicken, I'm just going to buy chicken

The bougie restaurant down the street from me has rabbit and dumplings on their menu. Its absolutely delicious and has become a favorite winter-into-spring comfort dish for me this year, but I laugh at how that was considered "poor folks food" when I was a kid.

I had rabbit a few months ago for the first time. Disappointed. Perhaps it was the way it was prepared, but I was expecting it to be a little gamier, and more on the side of beef or something. Less on the chicken side. I'd be willing to try it again, if prepared differently.

Rabbit meat seems to be all the consistency of white-meat chicken. I suppose you could get it gamier depending on the diet, but it's not going to be anything like beef.
