Less-known musicians

(Anonymous) 2024-04-27 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Who are some musicians or bands you think should be more popular and better known?

Re: Less-known musicians

(Anonymous) 2024-04-27 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Lene Marlin. I just loved her sound, and I wonder what happened to her.

Godspeed You Black Emperor. Love them so much. Granted, I wish the instrumental post rock genre was more popular. :(

I am taking recs! I do love post rock. But I couldn't listen to music properly for some time and right now I am having hard time finding new music

Darkest of the Hillside Thickets. Like, they have a song about math. They have a song about dinosaurs. They have a song in 50s style scifi. Much more interesting than "oh I got broken up with, oh I'm heart broken." MOAR DINOSAURS.

She isn't super unknown but I do think Rina Sawayama deserves more attention in general. I don't love every song of hers but I do really love what I like.

And this is me not knowing if something is underrated but I really like Lacuna Coil and don't meet many people who know of them. Velcra Tension as well.

here to rec all the metal-synthwave I'm currently obsessed with: Dance With the Dead, Fury Weekend, the Anix, and Blue Stahli. Fury Weekend's finally putting out new music and it's great.

DM Stith (singer songwriter, psychedelic folk, experimental pop). One of my absolute favorite musicians.

When you become the stereotype...

[personal profile] kaijinscendre 2024-04-27 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
When have you become whatever stereotype plagues you?

Just had tornado sirens go off. Sent the kids to the basement then stood outside with my BIL storm watching. I became the midwest dad. :(

There was no actual touchdown anywhere near me. Hopefully that continues for the second round of storms passing through at 6.

I've become the obsessive parent who can't stop posting about their kid, only the kid is my cat.

Favourite video game bosses

(Anonymous) 2024-04-27 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
What are your favourite video game bosses? Be it the design, an interesting mechanic, a cool boss fight, the characterisation or the whole package.

Brought to you by my love for the Sphinx in Dragon's Dogma 2. She's just so unsettling without actually being gross or obviously creepy(TM) and I adore her.

Bongo Bongo in Ocarina of Time. It was such a unique fight to me growing up.

Sander Cohen in Bioshock was such a disturbing character. Gave me the same vibes as David from the Last of Us.

Still love the Psycho Mantis fight from Metal Gear Solid. The mechanic is so simple, yet so wonderfully clever.

Gotta be the Mantis Lords. Whether you're fighting two or all three, they have this rhythmic quality to them that makes you feel like you're part of a dance where falling out of step carries a heavy penalty. And the OST accompanying the fight... first-rate! They're the Hollow Knight boss I have the most fighting, except for maybe Nightmare King Grimm.

I forgot one! Arthas in Icecrown Citadel. That was when I had a full raid guild and it was such a huge victory when we finally beat him. Plus, I love his cinematics.

Got an airfryer that was on sale. When it isn't tripping my breaker, I've been enjoying it so far. Anyone got any favorite things to air fry? I've done fries, pizza, chicken nuggets, carrots, asparagus, and samosas.

Really Weird Family Thing

(Anonymous) 2024-04-28 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
Today I found my biological grandfather. We aren’t sure which of his sons was my father, although we managed to exclude the youngest through his son, my cousin, who found me about a month ago.

My grandfather was born in 1884 and was 93 years old when I was born. My father would have been between 50 and 58, depending on which son it was. All of the sons had been married at least 30 years. My surviving siblings and cousins range from 62 to 86. The oldest member of the generation after mine is 59 (that I’ve found so far).

My cousin who found me is 51 and because his father was given up for adoption, is also unknown to these people.

I’m 47. My adoptive parents were older than all of my friend’s parents when I was growing up. They’re 80 and 81.

I’ve spent my entire life looking for my bio family but now I’m genuinely worried that if I make contact, the shock could literally kill some of these people.

Wow, WOW! Congratulations.
I hope that you *do* make contact, Anon. I think they can handle it. That is so amazing.
