One Positive Thing

(Anonymous) 2024-04-28 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
What's one positive thing that happened today?

Maybe you finally fixed your bed, or someone said hello to you, or the sun is shining where you are. What's something good that's happened to you today?

I made a checklist, haven't done anything in it yet, but breaking things down into bite sized activities makes things seem less daunting.

I hope to get a bunch of things done on it, but one step at a time, right?

It was not raining! I feel like it has rained every weekend for forever. Yesterday, cold and rainy. But today the sun came out!

It stopped raining and the flooded roads have drained. We were lucky enough to avoid any tornadoes.

My cat spent all morning on my belly. Was really sweet. And she was purring the whole time too.

I figured out almost all of the circuit breakers in the house panel and what they do. While one is still a mystery to me I can take care of the bulk of the switches and outlets in the house (I do plan to upgrade some of them). Also found a much better light to put in the screw-in socket in the garage.

not the positive part: a book about music that I bought yesterday came with a CD that turned out to be damaged
positive part: I took it back today and the bookstore guy gave me my $$ back and was very nice about it.

Felt better physically today I guess. Been changing the diet back to healthy eating, on top of getting sunlight in the morning. It's not a cure all but it's something.

New to you media

What have you enjoyed lately?

I have been watching Renegade Nell and really enjoying it. Not the point of wanting fic or fandom (yet) but its a really fun show and I am enjoying taking my time with it.

Been watching this National Geographic show on octopi. Really fun.

I enjoyed the first episode of Fallout.

And for new music, I've been enjoying The Tortured Poets Department, and also several songs off of Chappell Roan's recent album. She's really good! If campy-but-emotionally-sincere, overtly-queer synth-pop bangers sound like your scene, definitely check her out.

I finally started X-Men: Evolution because of FS a couple weeks ago. I absolutely love what I’ve seen so far! I haven’t had a chance to watch in about a week though so sadly can’t really talk about it much. But I am loving this version of every character!

I've got a slate of anime I'm going to try. They each get 3 episodes to pull me in. Tokyo Revengers, Black Butler, and Mob Psycho 100. I don't know anything about them.

After a wonky first episode I ended up really enjoying Dead Boy Detectives and the character I thought I'd dislike from the trailer actually ended up being my favorite!
(I'm not sure I want to look at what other people think about it, cause I can see the potential of angry rants from both the right and the left. Maybe I'm just to wary these days.)

Naturally I expect Netflix to cancel it any day now. <3

Captive Prince

(Anonymous) 2024-04-28 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Someone here mentioned these books surprising them (positively) with how it handles the slavery/relationship stuff and I am just curious - is it only satisfying at the end?

Idk I am just desperate for braincandy type books and keep striking out and saw these at my library. But I am not generally a fan of characters falling in love with their rapist/owner/kidnapper/etc and am on the fence if I want to give these a try.

If anyone has opinions on the books I'd love to hear them! I don't care about spoilers.

Re: Captive Prince

(Anonymous) 2024-04-29 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
I read the books a long time ago, but my recollection is that the slave/kidnapping/rape fuckery between the main characters (and the one MC's attitude about those things as a practice) is resolved roughly 3/4 of the way through the first book. It's also definitely a false claim that it's a "rape equals love" story; there is never any rape between the two love interests in any sense, not even a "this character wants to fuck but is the other's slave and therefore cannot consent" context. They do not fuck until the one dude gives up on slavery.

Based on 1 - What's the fic that was the hardest for you to recover?

(Anonymous) 2024-04-29 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
Links are welcome. Was it worth the hassle?
Mine was probably a SGA fic that I lost and wanted to reread. I posted on LJ fic finder comm and someone reqognized my description right away!
