What tropes would you love to see more of but in a different way than their usual portrayal?

Werewolves, but make them women. There are just not enough lady werewolves in the world.

Just as long as they don't look like the one in La lupa mannara (aka Werewolf Woman, 1976). She had a shiny black dog nose and nipples to match. (Yeah, you can Google it. It's NSFW, duh, and for good or for ill most of the images aren't very good.)

time travel stories where somebody changes the past and it actually IMPROVES things.

i get why people would like this, but i think that i personally would have too many philosophical questions to enjoy it.

I would love this.

"We live in the best possible outcome, nothing in the past could be improved compared to the world everyone's already familiar with" seems like a staggeringly arrogant and complacent way of presenting fictional timelines.

If Marty McFly could do it, why can't anyone else seem to? Cosigned.

I actually just finished a canon that was like this, but sadly I can't rec it as it's not in English and there isn't any translation for it at the moment.

For fic, de-aging stories where the person stays de-aged.

I read one once. It was so so sad. The cute mixed with the adults facing the reality that the friend they knew was essentially dead but also they love the child version of them. That fic fucked me up when I went in for just cute kidfic shenanigans.

That was me with Amateur Theatrics by galaxysoup. Destroyed me.

Post-scarcity societies where people actually get to explore self realization and have rewarding, meaningful lives, as opposed to ones where there's a horrible government controlling everything from the shadows and people are disappeared for pushing against the confines of the invisible cage of their illusory happiness.

Character A: But without real struggle what'll give my life meaning?!?

B: Literally anything.

A: Huh. Maybe you're right. I'll go dismantle that bomb under the fully automated Everything Factory.

[90 minutes of philosophical wondering about life and joy]

That sounds like a plot Ghibli could develop into something neat.

Honestly my favorite thing is tropes that tend to be specific to one sex or gender switched up.

Sex-positive, player female characters where it isn't just in a male-gaze way.

I love the action woman and smart/nerdy man dynamic. But again, not in a male-gaze way. Just, she's the one whose the physically strong one, the one who rescues him, he's the book-smart one.

"Grim Dark" stories where the main character chooses for good and kindness as often as they can and just kind of accepts that their best isn't always good enough instead of being constantly dreary.

Fuck Or Die in which the actual Fuck Or Die scenario is just the first chapter, and the rest of the fic is the characters trying to deal with the epic mindfuck of having been forced to have sex with each other, when ofc they secretly wanted each other before they were forced to fuck, but had no intention of ever acting on it, or else were repressing it.

Give me all of that angsty, guilty, fucked-up pining.

Enemies who are forced to fuck and then have to cope with the mindfuck of discovering that they kiiind of got off on it, and now they kiiind of want to do it again is also an acceptable variant.

I've read a few good ones that don't endgame with the two being a couple!

I've read a fic there characters hated that they had to deal with it. Had a whole arc about it. And ended to gather after dealing with it.

The Reylo dynamic but the genders are flipped. I don't know of anything like it where the female Kylo Ren isn't also a femme fatale.

You mean something where Han and Leia have a daughter and she's obsessed with her grandfather and spurns the rest of her family to join a shadowy mentor who taught her to follow the dark side. And then tries to interrogate a naive and very powerful young boy with no training and no family (that they know of) who manages to turn the tables on her and fight her to a standstill, and eventually turns out to be the son of the Emperor. Hm. Sounds like a premise that might play out in interesting ways, but I think you'd have an uphill battle getting people to empathize with a girl who destroys consoles with her lightsaber when frustrated. And tries to position herself as "teacher" to someone who can beat her in a fight. And ... the scene with Han would hit rather different. Nothing insurmountable, but I see why authors don't tend to give Kylo the same weaknesses if they genderflip him.
