I dunno, I'm not really a part of it. Some weird rivalry? Maybe they think FF.net is just full of teenagers so they love to hate it? I don't really visit FF.

I've never seen people wishing for ff.net to fail, but I do see a lot of people talking about what a shit site it is. I've always assumed that was more "I wish they'd improve" not "I wish they'd fail."

Weirdly enough, in the past few years while there has been an uprising of people hating on ao3 for dumb reasons, I don't see the same thing for ff.net at all.

He is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo boring.

I'm surprised Brendon Fraser agreed to it. Hasn't he said his action star days are over? Maybe they're not going to "star" in it really and it will be more along the lines of their children taking on the adventure. Who knows! But I generally agree with you.

I had absolutely no idea there was a third movie. The first was fun, the second was disappointing, and the third I didn't even know about. I don't have high hopes for a fourth.

Just opposite, ff.net skews older than AO3 does.

I've never heard anyone saying they want it to fail, but I have heard lots of surprise that it's still going.

I got further in than you did, and it is 0% justice system and 100% fey political+magical fuckery. I noped out after getting through a lot of sex and into the dungeons of the Big Bad. I may revisit in non-audiobook form but I really can't take torture scenes via audiobook

FF.net doesn't allow smut, so it seems like a site for babies. IDK, I'm not interested in it at all.

It's hard to complain too much about it (after all, The Mummy 1999 was already literally a remake anyway) but yeah, I don't think it's going to be much good.

I do wonder why modern studios seem to be so bad at making this kind of movie. I guess it's because there aren't really directors and writers who organically like this kind of material anymore? Most new writers and directors coming up are either clued-up ironic hipsters or nasty intense horror/thriller writers. The kind of 90s historical adventure we saw doesn't seem to be in the wheelhouse of creatives at the moment. And of course the way that people use CGI is bad and the production process for most big budget movies seems to be a shitshow which doesn't help.

Some ff.net partisans are weirdly aggro at AO3.

Being annoyed at those people is the main extent of my caring about ffnet.

Tbh having been on ffnet in the 2000s and no longer now, I won't say I want it to fail but I do think it's just not a good site. The ads are obnoxious now. And even since way back they didn't give a damn about helping protect authors from those only around to harass . One bullying account even bragged about their ban evasion in their bio. And they're still there to my knowledge.

So many updates have just made it worse. I like Ao3 because it is for fans and creators. As a fic writer I have the tools to protect myself from harassing comments. I can screen comments. I can exclude and include when searching . Tags help me better avoid stuff I wouldn't want to read.

It's just a better site than ffnet

I don't want FFN to fail, cause when it does a whole buttload of fandom history is going down with it. I'm just reasonably sure it's going to fail relatively soon (editor's note: "relatively soon" here means some time within the next decade)

I just don't understand getting heated over a fic website in general. I used to use ff.net more because it was one of the only fic-hosting websites that existed, I now mostly use Ao3 because it's the most used fic-hosting website, if that one declines like ff.net has over the years I'll move on to whatever crops up to take it's place. It's not any more complicated than that.
