I'm surprised Brendon Fraser agreed to it. Hasn't he said his action star days are over? Maybe they're not going to "star" in it really and it will be more along the lines of their children taking on the adventure. Who knows! But I generally agree with you.

I had absolutely no idea there was a third movie. The first was fun, the second was disappointing, and the third I didn't even know about. I don't have high hopes for a fourth.

It's hard to complain too much about it (after all, The Mummy 1999 was already literally a remake anyway) but yeah, I don't think it's going to be much good.

I do wonder why modern studios seem to be so bad at making this kind of movie. I guess it's because there aren't really directors and writers who organically like this kind of material anymore? Most new writers and directors coming up are either clued-up ironic hipsters or nasty intense horror/thriller writers. The kind of 90s historical adventure we saw doesn't seem to be in the wheelhouse of creatives at the moment. And of course the way that people use CGI is bad and the production process for most big budget movies seems to be a shitshow which doesn't help.

There have been a lot of beloved things that have returned in one way or another and all I got out of them was that time has changed.

It feels more exciting to re-watch the original The Mummy than to watch a new sequel/reboot/IDEK.
Invest in adverts/promos for special re-releases in theatres more!

I often forget a lot of theatres do re-releases of some old classics (I went to a 25th anniversary screening for The Nightmare Before Christmas; my best friend and I went to the theatres when Beauty and the Beast was re-released with the 3D gimmick, I didn't care too much about the 3D effects, I just wanted to see Beauty and the Beast in theatres again; recently saw that Alamo Drafthouse was rereleasing some 90s classics).

I got further in than you did, and it is 0% justice system and 100% fey political+magical fuckery. I noped out after getting through a lot of sex and into the dungeons of the Big Bad. I may revisit in non-audiobook form but I really can't take torture scenes via audiobook

It's badly written wish fulfillment fantasy with sexy elves, so yeah, being punished by living in luxury makes a twisted sort of sense.

Thanks for the laugh, OP! Honestly, I can't argue, I would have been a lot more interested if Feyre had been a guy, too. Though he would have still been a bland protagonist who is constantly doing impulsive, stupid shit and getting himself in danger unnecessarily.

With that said, Feyre's punishment is what it is for a reason, which will be revealed later in the book (if you don't guess it first).

I read the first book like two years ago, and I'm only just now getting around to reading the second one. I hear the second one is considerably better than the first, but I don't think anything can really rescue it for me when the first book totally failed to get me invested in any of the characters or the central romance(s).

I know I watched this whole series at an old boyfriend's house. And I can't remember anything about it. There was definitely time travel, like in the movie. And some bad future. But besides that?...run-away engineered virus? zombies?

Oh, except I do remember mild irritation that they named the female lead Cassandra. I think I was young and just figuring out how common that was as a trope/reference to female characters with future-knowledge.

What fun fandom trivia have you learned recently (or just feel like sharing)?

Timothy Hutton's father was Jim Hutton, who played the detective Ellery Queen in a TV adaptation.

This is especially fun for me because there's an episode of Leverage in which Timothy Hutton's character (Nate Ford) has to dress up as a famous fictional detective and chooses Ellery Queen. I'm not sure it's true, but some people say he even used the same hat as part of the costume.
