Yes and some people suck at their job.

(Anonymous) 2024-07-05 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Whether an actor is a fan has nothing to do with their ability to do their job, that's such BS.

(Anonymous) 2024-07-05 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
No but acting super unprofessional during promo work for the thing you work on means you're doing a bad job. Because that's literally part of your job.

(Anonymous) 2024-07-05 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I do not think that doing a bad job at promos (if we accept that not being a fan means you're doing a bad job at promos) is enough to say that you suck as an actor and your role in the franchise you're in sucks. Which is what OP says. That's what they say right there in the secret.

Personally, I don't give a rats' ass whether actors are professional during their promo PR sessions. I don't really care about their promo PR sessions. And I suspect a lot of people only care about promo PR sessions to the extent that they can use them as a stick to bash actors they don't like for other reasons.

But *even if you sincerely and deeply care about actors being professional during their promo appearances*, being unprofessional during promo stuff does not mean that an actor is bad at acting or that they shouldn't be in the franchise. That is just total fucking bullshit.

That's not what I'm saying. This's just your interpretation. It's a few short sentences, can you please not twist it to your liking?

They suck because they blame the audience.
They suck because they don't respect the franchise. You don't have to be fan you just need to not trash talk it.

Harrison Fucking Ford doesn't respect the franchise. Thoughts?

No idea but I find him annoying anyway.

Now you've reminded me of how Robert Pattinson insulted Twilight fans repeatedly and one time purposely ignored all of them at a live event in order to give his autograph to one person who was there as a fan of him in a previous project. I've despised him ever since and I hope his career is not going well.

And no, I was never a Twilight fan.

It's going well enough for him to afford having a baby.

IMO Rob Pattinson is a good actor and he's probably a decent person overall. With that said, I've never liked how overtly contemptuous he was of Twilight while starring in the movies. Was the series badly written fluff? IMO yes. But there's no shame in enjoying badly written fluff; it doesn't make you stupid or vapid if you enjoy badly written fluff. And Rob Pattinson was SO overtly contemptuous of the series that it kind of bled over into feeling like he was judgmental of the fans for liking it. And IMO that's a pretty insensitive attitude to have as someone who has willfully sought out a lead role in the property. Like dude, if you're not too good to act in it, the least you can do is not make the fans (many of whom are young and idolize you) feel stupid for caring about it.

I mean, his attitude was very in-keeping with the prevailing cultural attitude of the time, and he was also only in his early-mid 20s at the time (i.e. still kind of immature), so I don't really feel that the Rob Pattinson of today should be judged by his "OMG it's so ridiculous that people eat up this stupid trash" attitude from a decade and a half ago. But at the time I did think less of him for it, even as someone who wasn't all that into the Twilight phenomenon myself.

Same. I don't blame him for his opinion at the time, but those kids were the reason he was getting a big fat paycheck for those movies. And I don't think his agent forced him to take in the part. The bare minimum he could have done was act professionally. He's an actor, so that shouldn't be too hard.

People paid far less, in retail for example, manage to put on a smile and be gracious to the public every damn day of the week for twelve/fourteen hour shifts. If they can manage it, actors can plaster on a smile for two damn minutes.

I think they can still do a good job at acting - their profession in which they work - without respecting the franchise.

And if they do a good job at the acting, then it doesn't matter a damn to me whether they care about the rest of it.

The Snow White one was so bad that it was funny.
