How're you this fine Monday?

(Anonymous) 2024-07-22 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I've been doom scrolling the airline mess because I have my first ever international flight later this week and I am paranoid it will be cancelled or messed up. Other than that the day's been pretty good! We finally got rain so my gardens are happy.

Mondays are always a terrible mix of boring and anxiety inducing. We have 3 hours of meetings in the morning (boring). And I have to deal with getting any air shipments that flew over the weekend to their customer (anxiety inducing).

Got my nails done and went to target. So now I have neon yellow French nails with a matching pedicure, and about an extra hundred dollars worth of things I didn't know I needed from target.

I just got back from vacation and I’m sleeping all day today and probably tomorrow (I just found out I don’t have work tomorrow so that’s excellent) and trying not to think about how much weight I’ve gained or the fact that I can’t find my favorite microwave hot dogs in stock anywhere.

I hope your flight is ok! I’m always anxious about international flights getting cancelled or delayed because it’s so much work to adjust everything else and it isn’t like we can just call work and be like, uh, I need shift my vacation days three days to the left…

Are you One Bag Anon? I’ve been wondering what you/they ended up getting.

I have the earache from hell and will be calling the doctor tomorrow.

Honestly, that info graphic that was posted with Mr Rippy last night, if it was posted tonight I might just. I'm tired all the way to my soul.

Finally starting to feel better. I'm going to get a COVID test from my doctor in the morning and then call the office and see if they want me to come in or wait until Wednesday. Honestly the past few days are a blur. But I'm actually feeling human again.

Hope you have a great flight! Flying always makes me nervous, especially international flights.

I’m good. I did a bunch of chores and now I’m working on some embroidery.

Disappointed I wasn't able to walk today because of the weather. Also, work is being stupid, people are being stupid and I don't know how to resolve situations when people are being this stupid. Hopefully I'll be able to sort out some of the stupid tomorrow (it'd be nice if we could greatly reduce the stupid incidents in some way). At least someone else stepped in on a concerning situation today though.

Aggravated because I took time off last week and came back to work to discover that apparently the people who were supposed to be covering for me suddenly developed amnesia about how to do basic parts of the job.

Work and suspecting I may be in perimenopause despite being 38. There's a couple of things I can point to that suggests other symptoms of something else but my general overall health *ahem* down there has said otherwise.

I'm still contemplating writing out my regrets.
The upper half of my middle finger is slightly swollen for 2 days now.
I have family visiting this weekend so that is something to look forward to.

This Monday I went to a big comic book shop two days after a local comic book convention. I bought two Lone Ranger and one Hopalong Cassidy comics for my uncle, who really wanted to revisit his childhood classics. I also made salmon for dinner.

All in all, a fairly decent day.

OK

I'd spent about a week away from FS because the last time I visited here there were some unpleasant things going down. Returning to see tonight is rather chill. Glad FS is still out here doing its thing, even if sometimes I really despise the vibes.

Based on 1

If you've been in a fandom with a closed canon, how active is it now? When did the activity taper off, if it did?

Tolkien fandom was one of the early ones. And even though official canon is now closed, there are new adaptions. Plus, those of us who get into the fandom late energize the fandom all over again. Sometimes activity tapers for a while, but then it gets active again.

I've been in two.

One was Harry Potter, and it didn't die really, it's just different. I'd say the archives and writers I knew lasted a few years before they left. I'm not sure if anyone from those days posts on Ao3 or if it's all new people. I never got into the Ao3 side of fandom.

My current fandom is very active in terms of .gifs on tumblr and gabbing about the show, and two of the actors still have a fanbase, but the fanfic side is on life support. I'd say it went strong for two years after the show ended, then it got quieter and quieter.

I only ever get into closed canons. Of my main three fandoms right now: one has been closed for almost a decade, still going strong. One has been closed for about 5 years, just starting to dwindle a little, though there's an adaptation coming out soon. The last has been closed for two years. It's small, but seems to be chugging along alright.

All of them were released one ep per week.

I was in the Sherlock fandom and it died off HARD once the show ended. Not surprising considering how dogshit it became. Sherlock was one of those shows that didn't just get bad, it got bad in a way that made the incipient badness of the "good" seasons became difficult to ignore. I sincerely believe the show had a ton of potential in the beginning. Do I think it actually realized any of that potential? No, no I do not.

Surprisingly fairly active with the majority of the ones I'm into. The one with the least activity that I follow is the CLAMP fanbase on Tumblr, and they're definitely there because a CLAMP related meme or fanwork will usually make its rounds once in a while.

I'm in a fandom whose primary author died in 1973.

There have been lots of big blockbuster movie adaptations since, but I'm a book fandom person, and it's still very active (including the book that has never been adapted).

Unimportant things that you can't stop thinking about

(Anonymous) 2024-07-23 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
Lots of Big Important Drama going on, meanwhile I read a published novel last week where one of the dramatically OP characters intoned that the enemy they were fighting had made their penultimate mistake. And I'm pretty sure the author meant ultimate? But I keep trying to figure out if there's a way that making their second to last mistake makes sense. It tasks me.

Husbands behaving badly...

(Anonymous) 2024-07-23 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
I was bored and browsing boredpanda (which someone FS mentioned, so thanks!) and found this:

https://www.boredpanda.com/man-wife-sandwich-work/?cexp_id=100880&cexp_var=4&_f=trending

It reminded me of a thread not long ago about gender roles and husbands basically behaving in rather sexist, childish ways where several people claimed not to know men like that. That surprised me, TBH. Not every man I know is like that, of course. But I boggle at the concept that someone could reach adulthood and presumably spend a significant amount of time in the company of other humans and not meet/hear about a guy like this. LOL, in college, each one of my friends (who were beautiful, smart and generally cool people who deserved better) dated at least dude like this. Thank god they didn't marry those guys.
