I found a secret room in my house!!!
There’s a built in wall niche with a couple shoveled. I had a bunch of stuff crammed on there and a giant clothes rack blocking it from view or access. Today I dismantled the clothes rack and saw the backing of the niche was pushed back. I always assumed the exterior wall was there but it’s open space! It’s empty apart from a couple cinder blocks but it looks like it was a storage room and they sealed it off when they remodeled about 20 years ago.
I don’t want anyone to know. It’s not like I’m a killer or smuggler or something. I’m just really excited to have such a cool secret to keep! But I suck at keeping secrets so figured sharing anon here would help keep me from spilling the beans to everyone I know.

Definitely! I’m the only person ever in that part of the house because it’s my office and I’m so ridiculously excited!

If I found a room like that, I'd probably turn it into a mini-studio or something lol. Though I guess it depends on the actual size of the room.

The room is pretty decent size, like a big walk in closet. But getting into it is a problem because the niche is 3-4 feet off the floor and the shelves are nailed in. I have always kept the step stool right there so maybe I can make use of it that way. I’ll have to think on it. There are two new wardrobes going in that spot and this discovery changes how I’m going to arrange everything.

That's amazing! Put a bookshelf or something in front of it and store boring stuff there like holiday decorations, but also, it's probably a good place to hide valuables when you go on vacation.

I have an old antique bench that opens, and someone could probably figure out that there are laptops are in there if they break in when we're away, but maybe not, because there's a cushion on top. I don't think most run of the mill in-and-out burglars are great at deducing the vagaries of antique furniture.

Oh that sounds like a gorgeous bench!
I don’t know what I’ll do with this. I see now my original comment was the victim of autocorrect. There are shelves built into that spot and the back of the bookcase is what got pushed into the room on just one corner. So it’s easily hidden again while my brain percolates :)

Oooh, you can make a safe room if you can find a way to close the opening when you're inside!

Safely so you don't block yourself in accidentally.

Right?! I definitely want to be able to close the entry behind me if/when I go in there. I know a little carpentry and can learn more, I just need to think of how I want to do it.
