I sorta feel this, but from the writer’s side. I’ve made some great friends who are in the same fandoms as me and have the same ships. They know I write fic for those ships, but I don’t want them to read my fics. It makes me nervous for some reason.

What's kind of awkward to me is when they change fandoms or post origfic.

...I don't want to read anime fic or original fic, sooooory guys.

To be fair, at least you are not like a friend of mine who knows that I like hearing her opinion and thoughts on writing because I value her insights, but the most I get is a comment and when I have to go out my way to bring it up in DMs the only reaction I get is "yeah it was cute".

I'd rather not have friends read my works if that's the case because it's just ruining the mood. We can brainrot over ideas and headcanons without getting involved in each other's work or not reading everything.

I'm not sure I have this, I think maybe because most of my fannish activity for a while has been through participating in fic exchanges, and so whenever a friend of mine posts a new fic, it feels to me like I just got a new gift in a fandom I frequently request in exchanges, and I immediately go to read it and eat it up.

I do notice that the longer I'm friends with someone on Tumblr, the less I interact with their posts, though. I feel a bit bad about that.

Usually I make fandom friends via ao3 comments, and if I like both someone's writing _and_ them as a person... I wanna read whatever they're writing.

There is this underrated book series that I used to tell people was one of my forever favorites (Warchild by Karin Lowachee is the first book).

The author is still working on it and I was super pumped for new books and novellas in the verse and ... then she released the first novella and I HATED it. A lot. Suddenly there is a romance between two characters happening no one has ever asked for (they're both shipped with several people but I've never seen anyone ship them - most people wanted them to become brothers int he found family kind at most) and that imo doesn't work, one character doesn't feel like himself anymore and another character has somehow regressed his character development (all in my opinion ofc). I don't want to say that it ruined the rest of the books for me, because I feel like that's a bit childish, but I'm no longer looking forward to new stuff in the series. I'm so bummed about it.

Doesn't help that I used to be very active on her now gone author run forum, reviewed all of her books, always recommended the series and regularly commented on her instagram posts.
I've stopped that. I haven't told her I didn't like it, didn't give it a rating anywhere and didn't write a review.
We were never friends or something but I still feel bad.
