They think there is a difference between Ephebophilia and Paedophilia. And probably have strong opinions on age of consent laws in multiple countries.

That reminds me of the Gianmarco Soresi joke about how R. Kelly technically isn't a paedophile. I think that was one of the first jokes of his I saw.

That was a good one. And so true.

People assume education is justification. It's not.

I mean, there is a difference. Just because someone points out the difference doesn't mean they're suggesting either one is okay.

Unless they are, in which case, they can go fuck themselves far away from any schools.

Ugg, see, I always want to point out that there is a difference between Ephebophilia and Paedophilia. Because there is! Being attracted to a 16 year old, while gross (if you're over, say, 18), is a VERY different kind of gross than being attracted to a 6 year old. (If you're, say, anyone ever.) Like. Fuck, words fucking matter! Being able to say someone is a threat to toddlers is important! And being able to say someone is a creep to teenagers is also important but very different!!!!! AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!

But also I get it, because the people who bring it up unprompted are pretty unanimously ick.

It is generally a red flag when people try to argue gross or trauma olympics.

nayrt

I'm pretty sure that saying something is a different kind of gross is the opposite of the gross olympics.

Similarly, anyone who is suspiciously familiar with the age of consent in multiple countries and feels the need to bring it up as a defensive argument ("Ackshully sixteen means she's legal in [country] so it's okay to be attracted to her").

*shrugs* I've seen American fans make complete asses of themselves around people who are writing explicit stories about characters who in their country are legally adults.

I think you can guess that the fallback on "I'm flaming you because in MY country that would be ILLEGAL, and if it isn't the same where you live, that's fucked up!!" endears them to practically no one.

Dude there is a HUGE and important difference, what do you even mean.
