But that's not a remake problem. That's a problem with the Academy having bad taste and giving awards to bad movies. The Academy has made tons of terrible award choices that had nothing to do with foreign remakes. And because it's not a remake problem, you can't really solve it this way, either.

Also, are you actually mad about any movies other than specifically The Departed here?

Heh, I have a playlist for one of my favorite ships that doesn't have any of those artists on there. Mine is chock full of older music.

I have definitely seen playlists in my fandom that do have those artists, though. Or at least, I know Swift and Mitski are on them - I've not heard of the other two listed in this secret and I don't recall ever seeing them pop up in my fandom. I do agree with this secret, though, yeah, it does feel sometimes like people are focusing more on whatever the hot artist of the moment is rather than what songs might actually fit the ship in question.

But even then, I still like seeing people's playlists anyway, if for no other reason than it can be a fun way to discover new (or new to me, anyway) music.

I'mma need you to specify which "awful" tv show you mean because if you're talking about the Ms Marvel series, we gonna fight. I thought it was a delightful show that could stand alone outside of anything Marvel, and honestly the comic book shit was the worst part of it. Give me magical girl with historically-relevant background and keep your superhero idiocy thanks.

No, no -- the antis just took the valuable, real-life lessons provided by Jurassic Park to heart. When the clones figure out how to fuck each other, we all become lunch.

The actor's strike limiting promotion really gets overlooked when talking about this movie bombing.

(Anonymous) 2024-09-12 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Right? The show was so good and really did stand on its own. OP is talking crazy.

I enjoyed the movies too.

The single biggest factor in why the movie bombed isn't because it was bad or any of that other stuff.

The single biggest factor in why the movie bombed is that Eternals, Multiverse of Madness, Love and Thunder, and Quantumania were bad.

This is a fun secret for me because I was really into fan mixes several years ago, and it's fun to see that some of the main music choices have changed but some are the same (Mother Mother was on every playlist a decade ago too). I've noticed that certain songs or artists would get very popular for awhile and used on almost every mix. People definitely approach mixes with different levels of seriousness and curation, some just putting songs they like and vaguely associate with the characters, some trying to tell a clear story, and everything between. I prefer more curated mixes but mine definitely are biased towards my own favorite artists and the popular artists I connect to the most too.

Honestly this is why I can't just look up other people's ship playlists! There are a lot of popular songs that I see over and over again no matter what ship I'm looking up and it never feels right for the characters.

I mean, I love making my own playlists anyway, but every time I think 'oh, maybe someone will have thought of an interesting song I didn't think of', I find... the same five popular artists, the same few songs that DON'T make me think of the ship in question.

Sorry, what demographic is it you think won't be interested in superhero movies? Unless the demographic they were trying to reach out to was Scorcese, I call bullshit.

I see this less in my fandom, but my fandom in general tends to lean towards more eclectic music in mixes.

Yup. Agreed.

I agree that there are things about Natlan that are jarring in comparison to the rest of the game (though I also feel like...every nation is different from the others and it's kind of funny that so many people are mad that Natlan is...also different). But I'm also thinking that that is entirely intentional. We're getting deep in the latter half of the story now, Hoyo has to start ramping things up in a serious way to get wherever it is they're taking us.

Though really I still think a big part of people's problem with Natlan is simply that since Hoyo basically gave us nothing to work with about what it would be like before they released it that we had four years of Making Shit Up regarding it and when it was released and it was pretty much nothing like the Made Up Shit, people were inevitably disappointed and thrown off.

Note: I am not calling the ideas people had for Natlan actual shit, to be clear.

They were trying to appeal to women, but when I went to see it 70% of the audience in the theater was male.

The show that came out directly before The Marvels was Secret Invasion, and I don't know anyone who thought that show was good.

Spooky Season is coming up

I want to know your favorite lesser known horror movies. Trying to make a list of what to watch.

(Anonymous) 2024-09-12 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I would assume they were talking about Ms Marvel.

(Anonymous) 2024-09-12 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I had the opposite experience.

Kind of like every one of those lists had a Snow Patrol or Bright Eyes song. I still don't know who the fuck Snow Patrol are.

(Anonymous) 2024-09-12 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
The Marvels wasn't a particularly good movie, either. The plot was all over the place, it felt like a sequel to a movie that never got made, and the musical sequence on the planet of singers went on way to long, for starters.

Late Phases. Werewolves in a retirement home going up against a lone, blind war vet. Original, tense and badass.

(Anonymous) 2024-09-12 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
That could be dependent on location.

But are women uninterested in MCU movies in general? What are the base rates of women and men going to MCU movies? What were their target demos? What demos actually watched the movie?

We don't know the answers to any of these things, for one thing. And intuitively, I straight-up do not believe that women are uninterested in MCU movies in general.

(Anonymous) 2024-09-12 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought it was OK. It had bits I liked, bits I didn't like.

I just don't think that was the main reason it flopped.
