I agree with you in theory, but I don't think it's that new. Maybe it's just a matter of where you go. If anything, it seems to me that people were even more negative years ago.

I would say that it's not entirely new, but it's different.

It used to be a lot more nuanced. You could like parts of something and dislike other parts, and that was a normal part of being a fan. At this specific point in time, many fandoms are extremely all or nothing about this. You have to either love everything or hate everything, and the idea that you could like a book/movie/show/whatever and still dislike or even question certain things about it is anathema.
