ngl I have zero problems with gratuitous skimpy bikini armor if the men get the same treatment and are wandering around inexplicably shirtless or in tight leather armor or something. you'd think they'd realize already that 'people like sexy characters' doesn't only apply to people who like women. gaze at abs more or something, idk

I don’t think skimpy outfits are especially offensive compared to some of the stuff I’ve seen in male-targeted “romance” games, but I often think they’re stupid. I don’t particularly care whether she breathes through her skin, or she gets more powerful when demon blood splashes her bare skin, or this was the first outfit she could steal to replace her prison uniform. (None of these are hypothetical.) Give her something that actually looks cool!

I hope you take this as the supplement to your point that it's intended to be, but there's something to be said for the inverse of this: "if you can't love somebody else, how in the hell you gonna love yourself"? Sometimes it's knowing that there's someone out there you like and that you want to like you back that sets off the desire to change yourself, and even if your tastes change at the same time, it was still loving someone else that kickstarted everything.

Either way you look at it, how can you be loved, platonically or otherwise, if you yourself don't love?

As someone who has been one-sidedly loved before by someone I did not care about it can totally happen and it's a pain in the ass. I don't think the reverse is remotely comparable.

If it makes it any better, a lot of media about teenagers like that is written by wistful adults in a similar place as you. It's why I don't care for media focusing on teenager or 20-somethings anymore.

Also "for the sake of another person" is a pretty bad reason to seek to change yourself, and kind of sad if someone feels they need the person there for inspiration or else "how the hell you gonna love yourself?"

I havent played in ages but I remember being really pleased I could get equally skimpy armor for my male characters in Tera.

I remember the original Guild Wars had equal opportunity armor choices.

I get what you are saying and I agree. It won't fit for everyone, but there is def truth in what you are saying.
