Meanwhile, as much as I loath the insurance system in this country, the nasty comments people are making towards the family of the United ceo who was murdered is making me really uncomfortable.

AYRT - yeah, that's crossing a line, for sure.

(Anonymous) 2024-12-07 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
And yet I'm sure they'll be fine with the millions of dollars they'll be receiving from his death, unlike thousand of other people who were burdened with the loss of a loved one AND additional crippling debt from the policies he put into place without a single thought about their comfort.

My mom wondered at the boilerplate nature of the wife's comments about her husband. They were scarcely different from the company's.

As for the kids (who may in fact be young adults-- guy was 50 and he might not have had them *that* late in life) I simply pity them for their pre-existing condition (sharing 50% of their DNA with him).

The wife’s comments were certainly something! Just more proof that the super rich are not like other people.

But I’m pretty sure the kids are young. Can’t remember where I read it but I think they’re both preteen. Almost everything about the guy has been scrubbed from the internet though.

(Anonymous) 2024-12-07 06:14 am (UTC)(link)
They're 16 and 19.

(Anonymous) 2024-12-07 10:49 am (UTC)(link)
Old enough to be be forced to join the military because it is the only way they can pay for college and get out of the poverty trap... Oh wait, rich kids don't have that.

Yes, they will be financially secure. That doesn't mean they don't experience grief and loss or would appreciate seeing millions of comments ripping on their father.

Mind you, I am not judging any of the comments aimed at the CEO - it just reveals how bad the healthcare situation is. The CEO had no problem participating in a horrible system that denied people care while taking their money, and didn't seem to take any steps toward relieving the situation.

I'm just saying "the kids will be fine" doesn't paint the full picture. Many will say this based on situations where other kids had it worse. And while it's true the other kids had it worse due to lack of financial support, that doesn't mean the kids in this situation "will be fine." Financially, yes, they will be, but that's all we can say at this time.

NAYRT - Not to undercut their pain, losing a parent hurts no matter HOW old you are, but it always confuses me when people talk about "young kids" and the young kids end up being, case in point, sixteen and nineteen. I was thinking they were five and seven.

(Anonymous) 2024-12-07 06:04 am (UTC)(link)
They'll be financially fine, yes.

I still hope they're staying off the internet or at least from the news for the foreseeable future.

Yeah, it's one thing to not mourn the man, or even say nasty things about him, but leave the kids and wife out of it. Not cool.

Wife was a choice. Kids, fair enough.

(Anonymous) 2024-12-07 10:47 am (UTC)(link)
Remember civility, everyone.

You are why the left always loses.

(Anonymous) 2024-12-07 11:04 am (UTC)(link)
Marvelous how you well you type with your tongue up Trump's ass.

(Anonymous) 2024-12-07 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
You assume way too much and are a dumb ass.

(Anonymous) 2024-12-07 03:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Civility goes both ways.

And frankly, I'm not going to judge the collective catharsis of folks who have been badly and repeatedly screwed by a system that takes their money but finds all reasons to not give them what their dollar paid for. When the system isn't charging the patient impossible sums in the first place, that is.

There certainly is a problem here. The reactions to the man's death are just the symptom of that problem. And comments like yours just tell me some folks in the world would rather bury their heads in the sand than acknowledge that there are unfair systems in place that need to be changed.

I'll take a temporary lack of civility over a society that uses politeness as an excuse to not fix its ugliness toward its own people.

(Anonymous) 2024-12-07 03:19 pm (UTC)(link)
>Civility goes both ways.

+1

Also, random people on the internet are not representatives of "the left", politicians, journalists, activists, and educators are. Those are the ones who should be civil. Meanwhile right wing politicians will vocally say whatever bigoted crap they want with little pushback from their tribe. I don't care about every day people venting online.

(Anonymous) 2024-12-28 07:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Unfortunately the lack of civility is never temporary.

(Anonymous) 2024-12-07 03:08 pm (UTC)(link)
People need to remember that whatever their financial situation was, he was their father. Yes, at face value, they're rich and they're not going to be homeless because of it. But they did lose a parent. Regardless of how much money you have or don't have, that's still deeply tragic. It's why I'm not comfortable practically celebrating the CEO's death. I hate the way insurance works in this country. I call it Unsurance. (Original, I know. /S) But people lost someone they love.

(Anonymous) 2024-12-07 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)
lol

I've actually never heard it called "unsurance" before, but how true.
