Dean du Bois (the director of the original movies) is the head director for the live action so I have high hopes this will be just as good.

You know my first response is "ugh why? It is just the same thing!" But then I think about the thousands of fic that I've read that is about the same basic thing slightly tweaked over and over so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Enjoy your movie OP.

Why? Because DreamWorks would probably have even less luck than Disney in trying to overturn public domain/extend copyright protection until the heat death of the universe.

I don't understand this reply

I think they’re saying this is a ploy by Dreamworks to keep the characters etc under copyright.

DA/NAYRT

Ahh makes sense to me now why they're making a live action adaptation

I mean I do kind of agree with the ultimate shrug at the end, but I do feel like it's fine to have different expectations and likes for things made by professionals for the public vs by fans for fans. For professionally made stuff, I expect them to not go for the creatively bankrupt option. For fanmade stuff, "creatively bankrupt" means those incorrect quotes posts that just recreate the same jokes over and over with different fictional characters.

It’s not surprising if they’re redoing the iconic shots. That doesn’t mean it’s gonna be totally redundant. I hope?

We're going the wrong way.

Ok, hollywood is a vacuum of creativity, All they know is remake... But why Live Action remakes of animated classics? Why do a LESS magical and whimsical version of old magical and whimsical movies? Why not take old movies that were limited by the effects of their day and do an ANIMATED version?

I know we're getting wicked soon, but why not a Disney hand-drawn era style animated version of the Wizard of Oz? And the sequel? Hell, if it takes off, do the whole Oz books.

ANIMATE the Harry Potter films? The Percy Jackson series? I remember there was a sinbad movie back in the 2000's somewhere, why just one? Why not Animate all the old movies? All the Ray Harryhausen movies? Clash?

You can accomplish way more by animating Live Action than you can by making live action out of Animation. And all with the same lack of creativity.

You're very correct!

(Anonymous) 2024-12-11 02:03 pm (UTC)(link)
It might be cheaper, or there's some obscure bit of IP law they're trying to take advantage of.

completely agree to this! animation >>> live action any day for me

when the worst person you know says something that you don't disagree with
