I can totally understand why you feel that way.

But also: The EU was second only to the movies and for a lot of fans, it was second only to the OT. It was like an adjacent canon at first and then kinda grew from there. So I can also totally understand why EU fans are still bitching about what happened.

The EU was rich with awesome characters, world building, and fantastic stories. If there were going to be more movies, it made sense to draw from the EU. Instead we got the sequel trilogy which not only wasn’t as good but effectively shit all over the EU’s legacy and fandom. There was no reason to handle it the way they did.

I feel like they'd have to have done the sequels at least 10 years earlier if they were going to make them consistent with the AU. The OT actors were simply too old to pull off what their characters do in the EU.

The OT characters didn’t need to be in the movies though. And Disney didn’t need to kill the EU. From a business perspective, it was a stupid move. They’re churning out all this live action content now that’s hemorrhaging money and they’ve over saturated the market. Their core fan base has dwindled because Disney chose not to capitalize on an already profitable commodity.
