You're right, but if people are stanning for Cersei because she's brilliant, then either the TV show has taken a significant departure from the book(s) or people just don't get that she's conniving (and Lena Headey is distractingly fabulous) but does some spectacularly dumb shit.

Cersei isn’t as smart as she thinks she is, so it tracks that her plans aren’t as clever as they could be. What she does have however is spite and vindictiveness beyond measure and that’s why she tended to win against those working against her.

Why does a fictional character need to satisfy a laundry list of arbitrary qualities to have fans? That's bordering on gatekeeping.

Do people like her because she's a clever schemer, though? I thought people liked her just because she's just, well, extra. She's a hot mess, she's sympathetic, she squanders ALL that sympathy by being a petty jerk, she loves all her children (including JOFFREY), she's sexy, she's only interested in having sex with herself her twin or someone who looks like him, she's bitter, she has a drinking problem, she's a jerk to her younger brother, she's larger than life, she manages to get in some wins just by being ruthless. There's just so many sides to her -- she's fun! I don't know, that's what I like about her at least. I wouldn't call myself a big Cersei fan, but I don't think a character needs to be a clever player in the Game of Thrones for people to stan.
