Not enough Star Wars fans watched Rebels, that is the problem.

philstar22: (Star Wars: Darth Maul)

Maul is one of the most overrated character. And I like him. But he's not as amazing as people think, and there are far better characters. He's better than Boba Fett and Mandalorians in general, though.

Agreed on all fucking points there. Maul, mildly interesting but played out. Mandalorians, they were overdone before Disney even thought about buying SW and nuking the old Legends continuity. I wish they'd never even bothered.

omg no more than an hour ago I was trying to explain to my millennial housemate what the fandom take was immediately post-TPM, and we came up with "the problem with Star Wars is that no less than 3 characters who were Actually Dead turned out to be Actually Alive LOL" so thanks, secret OP, for putting that out there. You're right. Maul sucks. He shoudl have stayed dead, Palpatine should have stayed dead, Boba Fett should have stayed dead. Fanboys and their obsessions have been stupid and wrong for the last 25 years.

No one should care about this throwaway character, but here we are, and it's totally a case of kickass character design and A+ delivery on the actor's part. Also, the throwaway nature of the character lets us project whatever we like onto him. I'm not a fan personally, but I see why others would be.

IF HE HAD STAYED DEAD.

you have to include that. If you didn't know that the themeatic universe had brought him back to life, I'm sorry to have to tell you that. He needed to stay dead for his design and Ray Parks' delivery to have had any lasting meaning.

Damn. I didn't know that. Yeah, that kinda ruins it.

If I hadn't left Star Wars behind, stories about Darth Maul would be what I'd want and read. Vader, Palpatine, and then Maul are the only characters in the series that meant something to me. Savage was more worthwhile than I expected, too.

I find it rather absurd when hero fans complain about charismatic, resourceful villains "not staying dead," when their own favorite characters are functionally immortal.
