I despised stupid, ALL CAPS, poptart loving Thor in Avengers fandom.

Also, pack mom Stiles. Still not a fan of that one.

This isn't unique to any one fandom, but the way I've seen some m/m fandoms take the female character that's acceptable to like and turn her into some all-knowing shipper who orchestrates the fandom ship getting together, usually in incredibly boundary crossing ways she wouldn't do in canon.

fanon!Zhongli being portrayed as a naive weakling, particularly to boost how strong fanon!Childe is, drives me up the wall.

It doesn't happen the majority of the time, thank the gods, but NB/trans man!Nie Huaisang. Like.... Oh, this character comes from a clan/family full of big, manly, rough-and-tumble warriors but the character himself is smaller and prefers the arts and literature over fighting? MUST BE A WOMAN OR WOMAN-ADJACENT cause, you know, none of those are MANLY. Fuck off with that bullshit and make his big brother NB or trans.

I really loved any fics with political!Jon Snow. His character in the show is just...nothing.

I enjoy any Steve Rogers fics that lean as far away from the Whedon portrayals as possible.

Batman and Batfam in general; the same would probably hold true for the rest of DC, but I've only started to branch out to the other heroes, so I can't honestly say if I prefer their fanon versions to the comics, yet.

This is the only fandom in my life there I disliked source material. Usually I do love canon and never go for things I consider mediocre or bad.

For the X Men movies (only X1-X3), fanon Logan is better than movie Logan. I think he’s better because fic authors often drew from the comics and the cartoons.

I was never a part of the fandoms but pour one out for the Harry Potter and Avatar: the Last Airbender fandom ships that were supposed to be endgame but weren't.

Sterek, at least in the sense that it would be canon and I even started watching the show because I was promised eventual gay romance. Only to see two dudes who absolutely had an entertaining dynamic but who very clearly disliked one another. Shipping material for sure, canon potential though? Nope. Not even close.

Both Sheith and Klance from Voltron, shippers of both were convinced they would happen which was bizarre in the latter case as the characters really didn't interact much, and while I got why people shipped the former... Shiro was clearly written as an older bother/hero figure to Keith. I'd have been shocked if either had happened.

People are still insisting that sonadow is going to happen in sonic canon. It's been twenty fiveish years. And SEGA have always said Sonic's first love is adventure.

Homura/Madoka. They don't need a rationale because nobody disagrees with them. Even I tend to forget it isn't canon, until I rewatch the show.
