Thank you, OP. I almost choke myself with tea for the Autism & Prejudice.

Dude. Don't even come for that handflex. I will fight a bitch. On a Period Drama Hand Porn hotness scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being a match and 10 being Los Angeles in January 2025, that handflex is the atomic bomb.

That said, I wasn't aware of the autism trend in this movie's fandom. That would annoy the hell out of me as well.

I prefer Colin Firth's speaking volumes with his gaze and microexpressions but honestly, the handflex wouldn't bother me except for the P&P context. Fans go soooo overboard about it, and it's usually combined with a "Darcy is just a socially awkward teddy bear with FEELINGS" nonsense that is a stretch re: characterization. The autism headcanon is a bigger reach.

haha true

Is this a “headcanoning characters as autistic” thing?

(Anonymous) 2025-02-14 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
Partly, yeah.

(Anonymous) 2025-02-14 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
What handflex?

The people who I know that love this film really love it, and I just think it's OK.

LOL Didn't know it was nicknamed "Autism & Prejudice". Can't say I find that tasteful or a reason for the film's appeal.

LMAO on the hand flex.

It's a film with lovely cinematography and decent acting, but it changes far too much about the novel to be a good adaptation, IMO. It's also one of those films where the script writer didn't trust modern audiences to be smart enough to grasp Austen's language, so he updated it and lost so much of the original charm and wit. Likewise, he didn't trust modern audiences to figure out that even though Elizabeth is a gentleman's daughter, her family is "only" well off, not super rich like Darcy is. So he portrays the Bennets living like they're rural farmers, messing around in the stable and having a pig literally stroll through their house like they're medieval peasants.

Is "Autism and Prejudice" an affectionate fan nickname from the fandom, or are you the ableist troll who's obsessed with autism and why are all the comments ignoring that?

Serious Question: Is she unable to close her mouth?

(Anonymous) 2025-02-14 11:07 am (UTC)(link)
I think no 😑

I'm a mouth breather and I feel a need to say sorry. I've always felt sympathy for Keira Knightley and Kristen Stewart for being mouth breathers. XD
