I am interested in examining femininity. And all kinds of interesting drag and gender performances.

What I don’t like is that “sassy mean girl” persona. Or the catty competitive environment.

I was lucky enough to be at the fringes of a drag scene that wasn’t like that at all.

I mean... drag's origins are in pageantry.

Yeah, that stuff has been there from the beginning. And pretty widespread throughout.

I still don’t like it

you're not wrong. locally our drag scene isn't about the catty mean girl persona, but every once in a while one of the big clubs gets a national touring act that may/may not be Drag Race associated and the culture is drastically different. I'm here for our local queens doing library readings and Sunday brunch trivia, but I'm not here for RPDR-affiliated drunk/high queens doing roasts of each other. The expectation is drastically different and it shows.

OP

Yeah, the thing is, that I am interested in gender play, even though hyperfemininity isn't it for me. But I am not lucky enough to have drag scene available to me. And I find "sassy mean persona" unappealing.

(If anyone has recs that are available online, I would be much obliged)
