Captain America Movie

Gizmodo is reporting the new Captain America Movie is doing well in theaters and meeting Marvel expectations. Not the flop that some haters wanted for a black man in the CA suit.

I have mixed feelings. I'm burned out as hell on anything MCU these days, and Disney is another one of those shitty companies that rolled back their DEI policies.

On the other hand, if it's making some horrible racist people cry, then I'm glad the movie is doing well. Why yes, I am a petty bitch, why do you ask?

We'll see what the totals are after the weekend, and what the week to week drop is. It's still to early to tell what the legs are going to be.

Also, I'm not sure I'd call opening on par with Black Widow doing well.

I'm not one for marking a film's quality by how much money it made, hopefully those who went to see it had a good time, that matters more than raking in money and I've never understood anyone trying to make a pissing contest out of how much a movie makes. Some of the worst fucking movies that exist made shit tons of money.

I agree, but whether or not a film breaks even or makes money as opposed to losing money makes a big difference in whether a sequel will be greenlit. It can also make a big difference in how much of a role the leading character will be given in team-up projects going forward in a comic book franchise like Marvel.

I'm still waiting to hear about the plot. Last I heard it was going very pro-Israel, but I also stopped looking for news about it around that time, so that could have been completely wrong.

nah, it's because he bought the domain x.com a lot of time ago and it was useless until now. I think it was mostly because he's always been a troll and thought it funny to have a legitimate website for money transaction (he wanted paypal to become x.com) be named like a porn website.
Remember: he was a troll waaaay before he was a nazi and he is still one.

If you are in the US, have you been to any of the ones that have been going on since Trump took office?

I've been to several protests over the years. I haven't been to any recent ones in my city but thinking about going to the one scheduled tomorrow.

I went to some Planned Parenthood ones before, though not anything on a state level like these ones against the current admin.

My parents brought me along to a few as a kid, but I didn't start going on my own until 2016. I hated Bush II's administration and rabid Islamophobia and warmongering, but I was dealing with too much personal and family shit to hit the streets about it.

Now I'm trying to get over my phone phobia so I can become a nuisance caller to my Congresscritters.

Managed to call and ask them to vote against RFK Jr and now I guess I should ask my state legislature reps to get cracking on protecting our access to vaccines and medications that have already undergone review by the FDA (that is currently being dismantled along with the NIH and CDC so who exactly is "reviewing" them again?)

I will probably go wave signs and yell, too, but this round is gonna mean playing whack-a-mole against a never ending flood of nastiness. Dismantling the government, firing federal employees, handing Ukraine to Putin, ethnic cleansing "relocating" Palestinians, letting Musk and his minions loose in the Treasury, dismantling protections for trans people and anyone who's not cis white straight ablebodied Christian and male, witholding already allocated federal funds and trying to short the entire fucking US economy for stock market funzies...

Ugh.

Yes plenty. I often join protestors if I see them and agree with their message. I've picketed outside random restaurants before because there was a workers' rights protest outside.

Remember to leave your phone AT HOME, don't just turn it off or remove the battery, leave it at home. If you need a phone, then buy a dumbphone as a burner. Keep it turned off until you need to use it and store only the most vital numbers in it. One of which should be a lawyer you trust.

You should also write down the lawyers number and keep it on you for safekeeping too. Write it on your arm in sharpie if you have to. Watch out for fellow protestors who seem overly interested in your plans and friends. They are undercover cops. They will wear heavy well maintained boots, and probably have an article of clothing such as a bandana or obvious t shirt or jacket patch in a very bright and obvious colour. This marks them out to fellow cops.

When protesting, watch behind the police front line. This is where the snatch squads form up. Watch for movement of large groups and for the front line either making room, or starting to push forward. That means the snatch squad is about to move. Avoid the police horses. The cops like to use cavalry tactics to run protestors down. They also guard the snatch squad. So keep an eye on those.

If you get arrested, then SHUT THE FUCK UP. Even, especially, in the holding cells. Don't talk to your friends, definitely don't talk to strangers, the only person you talk to is your lawyer. You shut the fuck up. Don't talk about the bus you are taking home, or where you are meeting for pizza, or asking for help with homework, or bitch about how your boss wouldn't give you time off. SHUT THE FUCK UP until your lawyer, and only your chosen lawyer, bounces you.

Remember to dress warmly in layers. The cops like to corral and kettle protestors, and keep you in the weather, and away from lavatories. Dress in layers that you can easily take on and pull off.

When you are protesting, unless it is a crowd chant, then SHUT THE FUCK UP. The cops are always listening.

To add to this: if you can, take public transportation to a protest. If you can't, try and park a little ways away and walk to the protest area. You don't want your car nearby.

Wear masks - helps with pepper sprays or other airborne attacks and you will be in close quarters with a lot of people/germs with the added bonus of hiding your face.

Stay with the crowd - don't get separated.

Do not engage with violent agents of chaos or anti-protesters. Protests will always bring out the anarchists and bad players, do not engage. Stay peaceful and with the majority.

And repeating because it is worth repeating: leave your phone at home!
