i feel this so hard, op!

even when i was a kid, i was more invested in older couples. like if i was watching a kid/teen movie, i'd be more interested in the protagonist's parents and their relationships lol. i'd love if anyone wants to hit me w/ any media recs :0)

Pretty sure the sub-genre exists. Have you tried asking a librarian or bookseller about it for recs? you know a real person and not booktok?

It's calling it "baiting" that's delusional. If you think for one second the writers of these shows spared one single thought for slash-goggle-wearing fangirls when writing and directing those scenes, to the point that they deliberately framed them the way you saw them, that's the delusion.

Shipping something is not delusional. Pointing out that the chemistry between two characters reads more romantically than platonically is not delusional. Believing it was done intentionally, in order to string you along and make you believe it stands a chance is absolutely delusional.

Chemistry between actors or characters =/= baiting.

Intense, passionate relationships =/= baiting.

Powerful, emotionally-charged moments =/= baiting.

Look up the actual meaning of 'baiting', FFS.

I'd be more interested in the genre if the women were allowed to be over 35.

I've seen enough Woman Under 25/Man Over 35 romance stories to last a goddamn lifetime.

I remember this being a pretty active ship back in the day, but I might be biased because I had several friends who were into Harry Potter and wrote fanfic for this and other pairings. But fandom in general seems waaaaay more squicked by older man/younger woman power imbalance pairings now than back then, I dunno. I don't really remember any recent secrets about this?
