Some of my earliest memories are of my dad reading early scifi to me, particularly Heinlein juveniles. Also reading the Hobbit to me. My nerdy love started very early.

It's calling it "baiting" that's delusional. If you think for one second the writers of these shows spared one single thought for slash-goggle-wearing fangirls when writing and directing those scenes, to the point that they deliberately framed them the way you saw them, that's the delusion.

Shipping something is not delusional. Pointing out that the chemistry between two characters reads more romantically than platonically is not delusional. Believing it was done intentionally, in order to string you along and make you believe it stands a chance is absolutely delusional.

Chemistry between actors or characters =/= baiting.

Intense, passionate relationships =/= baiting.

Powerful, emotionally-charged moments =/= baiting.

Look up the actual meaning of 'baiting', FFS.

eh, i think you could do better than Vader. Vader's hinges on Luke's faith and Palpatine taking revenge. The perfect death as redemption is Dimmesdale's in the The Scarlet Letter imo because the person he has wronged has given him an out, and his redemption is that he doesn't take it even though he knows what is right to do is suicide.

Fully agreed on this. I feel like that comes through especially strongly anytime he and Kira are in a debate about the right course of action. I like that his crew knows and respects he's in charge, and yet they're also not afraid to challenge him or push back when need be...and I like that he can respect and allow for that, even if he doesn't agree with their stance or actions.

I think if you’re that attached to Suchet’s version, avoiding the movies was a good call.

I loved the TV episodes so much and I don’t think any other version will usurp them in my heart. I honestly like some of them better than the original stories.

But I was curious about alternate adaptions, so I tried the movies and found them so very jarring. The character choices were just too different for me.

I remember this being a pretty active ship back in the day, but I might be biased because I had several friends who were into Harry Potter and wrote fanfic for this and other pairings. But fandom in general seems waaaaay more squicked by older man/younger woman power imbalance pairings now than back then, I dunno. I don't really remember any recent secrets about this?

i feel this so hard, op!

even when i was a kid, i was more invested in older couples. like if i was watching a kid/teen movie, i'd be more interested in the protagonist's parents and their relationships lol. i'd love if anyone wants to hit me w/ any media recs :0)

What's really galling is that Greg Garcia, the showrunner, knew that the show wasn't doing well and was in danger of being cancelled, so when it came to the final season, he asked the network, "Hey should I come up with a big finale to wrap up the season or end on a cliffhanger." The network told him to go with the cliffhanger one, so Garcia did, expecting that he'd get another season to wrap it all up. Only for the network to cancel the show right after the cliffhanger episode. >:(

Still, hearing about how he intended for the show to end, softens the sting a little but not by much.
