The Disney EU just doesn't have the interesting details that the old one did. The first EU was written by guys who loved Radioshack and that's genuinely why I loved it, all the details about the characters fixing things...

I do think Disney starting over was the best thing to do. They still fall into inconsistencies, but I'm glad none of them led to the Canon A, B, C, etc. bs.

There are definitely issues with the EU, since there was no singular vision for it. At the end of the day, it was all basically sanctioned fanfiction.

But! The Disney canon is not consistent and doesn't make sense, because it also doesn't have a singular vision. They keep having to retcon stuff to make it work. Since season 2 of 'Andor' is out, and because it annoys me, I'm gonna use that as an example: they completely changed Cassian's backstory and age from what it was in 'Rogue One' and all the tie-in comics and fiction in order to make the show work. Because of that, there are scenes in the film that now come across as either lacking continuity or as him being a giant hypocritical asshole.

Hating things that are harmless and different from us is just human nature, I don't think it needs an explanation. I imagine it's like hating (nonpoisonous) insects or frogs or snakes.

I don't actually know the canon, though.
