Seriously. It's so frustrating.

And even in the case of "commissions are too expensive"... What artists are you following? I've gotten lovely art for $15-30.

the artist doesn't matter. a majority of people live paycheck to paycheck and can't afford to spend an extra $30 for one piece of art

(Anonymous) 2025-06-15 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
DA but what about artists who need commissions to get by having thrir artwork scraped? This argument makes no sense, most people who use AI aren't too dirt poor to commission a $30 sketch when running Stable Diffusion requires PC specs I can't even afford. I'm paycheck to paycheck too and only get small commissions if I have extra money.

Pencils can be purchased at the dollar store, and references are free. Sometimes you don't get instant gratification.

I knew I would get this comment justifying AI lol. So am I. That's why I try to tip artists I like when I can or grab a sketch since we're all struggling.

"the artist doesn't matter" lmao

Guess what, a fucking artist can't afford to spend money on materials and hours and hours of their time creating a piece of art just so some whiner can complain it's too expensive.

(Anonymous) 2025-06-15 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Cool, then you can't afford a "good" AI unless you're the PRODUCT.

Also Picrew exists. Dollmakers exist. When I grew up, I dealt with what I had and got what I could for free or LEARNED THE FUCKING SKILL. I wasn't allowed dollhouses because they were "expensive" so I gathered shoeboxes from relatives and old scrap shirts and MADE dollhouses. Didn't care they weren't the shiny big wooden ones or branded ones, I still had a blast. Why does it HAVE to be perfect or exact?

I don't understand the logic of "I'm too poor to commission, so I need AI." I'm low income and my PC is outdated because I can't afford something more recent, a computer that can run these AI programs are a pipe dream for me. I know there's free AI generators online, but they're restrictive garbage. Is this impoverished AI user in the room with us right now...?

(Anonymous) 2025-06-15 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, let's be real: it's that they don't respect artists and see them as just being greedy for not seeing the ~beauty~ of their vision and just GIVING them what they want all the time for free. It's spoiled brat mentality.

(Anonymous) 2025-06-15 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
da, but... good artists? The last piece I commissioned was $100 and I honestly felt like the artist was undervaluing themselves a bit so I gave them a nice tip.

Any artist only charging $15-30 is DEFINITELY undervaluing themselves and needs to up their prices.

Depends on the type of art, icons, "your character here" where a sketch is already drawn, flat colored, and thigh/waist-ups cost less than a full rendered image. It makes me sad when artists undercharge, I only commission when I gave extra money but it's best to tip and encourage them to charge by the time taken to draw.

NAYRT

lol I replied with the same thing right below you. My mind went immediately to character profile type of commissions. "Headshot icons of your D&D party $15 each" type things are pretty popular

(Anonymous) 2025-06-15 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
I think it's hard to say anything "definitely" without knowing what was commissioned. Sketch work or line art or character headshots for a tabletop game can be $15-30 easily and be great. Not every commission is full details and shading and things can be "lovely" without them

(Anonymous) 2025-06-15 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
Fair, I hadn't been considering headshots but even then I'm used to seeing those for $30-45 and not $15.
